This tragedy has Chechnyan terrorism written all over it.

With the two stories happening to be side by side I read that as "Cheney-an terrorism". :confused:

Now, two more attacks after the "staged" elections in Chechnya: a suicide bomber blows herself up outside a Moscow subway station, killing 9 and wounding many more, and pro-Chechen, suicide-bomber rebels have taken hundreds hostage in a school in North Ossetia!

Putin has said he is not going to negotiate with the Chechen rebels, but short of wiping them out completely, which is impossible, he is going to have to take a different approach. Russia is vast, there is no way that the country can afford to create impenetrable security for all its major cities (would it be possible even if Russia had the US's GDP), and many of the Chechen rebels, inspired by Al Qaeda, appear quite willing to kill themselves as well as thousands of innocents in an effort to make their point. Until Putin takes a different approach, I think these people will continue to escalate their attacks.

Nationalism coupled with religious fanaticism is the most dangerous brew.
