Well, its almost 3 weeks after the elections and we still do not know who our Governor is yet in Washington State. This is the only race in the country that isn't over yet. Its been nip and tuck between Repug. Dino Rossi, and Dem. Christine Gregoire. Each day counting the massive number of absentee ballots, bring a different result. Yesterday Gregoire was up by a couple of hundred votes. This morning I read where Rossi is now up by 19 votes!! It looks more and more like there will be an automatic recount. I understand if there is less than 2,000 votes separating the two, when all votes have been counted, an automatic recount is required. I wonder how long the recount will last????

I assumed this was resolved!
What's the mood in Washington?
I worry sometimes that events like this cause political apathy, or, not apathy as much as a frustration with the political processes that makes people feel "done" with politics.

It's amazing how close this race is. Personally, I don't think people were as passionate about this race as they were (for obvious reasons) the President. I don't know much about Rossi, but I don't think he is an ultra-conservative. The spoiler is turning out to be Libertarian Ruth Bennet who received over 63,000 votes. If the margin is less than 150 votes they have to do a MANUAL recount. Oh brother.

WE are in recount mode in Washington State. In big headlines in my Spokane Spokesman-Review this morning ran the headlines: "Race was Gregoire's to lose." And its very possible thats what she may have done, I am sorry to say. Anaylasts speculate that after she knocked of Seattle liberal Simms in the primary she played things to "safe", and didn't seem to want to rock the boat. In addition to that, she didn't even carry Pierce County (Tacoma), which for a Dem. up here is unheard of, and not good. I will not be at all surprised if Rossi takes the Governor seat, but its not over yet.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so this appears to be the most appropriate thread. The repugs are saying that over 1,000 votes in King county were from felons, people who voted twice, and dead people.
Well we got a phone call last night from Kiro a local news channel/radio they wanted to talk to my partner. It turns out the repugs are saying that he is dead and his vote shouldn't count. They recorded to the call to air on Kiro radio this morning, and asked if he might be willing to be interviewed on TV.
The repugs just need to give it up at this point. They are going on and on about how their list of 1,000 votes were illegal, and their list is 100% correct. I beg to differ!

They do need to give this up...but they won't. I still see so many letters to the editor on this side of the State that are anti-Dem. and anti- Gregoire. Poor people. Put a period in it and move on. But they won't.

Well in the here we go again category, Dino Rossi announced today, certainly not to my surprise that he will make another run for the GOP for Governor of Washington State. As you know he lost ( thank God) to Governor Gregoire 4 years ago by 133 votes....This should be interesting even more so this time around, as the state is booming economically, so much so that even here in Spokane the economy is booming and we have a budget surplus of some size, so it should be interesting to see how this one plays out. No announcements from Gov. Gregoire yet, if she is going to run again. I would be shocked if she did not...stay tuned folks!

HockeyTom, what are the polls like for Gregoire? Is she likely to get reelected if she runs? What would Rossi have to run on? Isn't opposition to the war strong out there?

Fan. I haven't yet heard of any polling being done, but stay tuned...I suspect that Gregorie should have a lead because as I have pointed out, the State is doing quite well at this time, and the west side of th estate has a huge population advantage over eastern Washington, plus of course its quite blue over there whereas over here, Spokane is somewhat purplish, and the rest of Eastern Wash. is red....Rossi is complaining that Gregoires' style is not "new" or "different", that she is same old same old, and it appears he is going to try to paint her as an old style politican. Those are the sound bites I am hearing from Rossi so far....and yes the war is a huge issue in Wash. State, again moreso on the west side...as soon as I hear/see some polling will let you know.

Politics1.com currently has this race as a toss-up
I can't see how-Gregoire will take this by at least 5-10 points this time around

Its way early to get any feel for what may come just yet, but I read my first comments in the Spokesman-Review the other day where Gregoire pretty much answered some of the comments Rossi made the other day, and it sure sounds like she is considering running again. I hope so. There is something about Rossi I don't like. I think some of it is the arrogance which so many in the GOP have had over the past many years...will keep posting the latest from my perspective.

I can't imagine her not running again
