Oh Dan, please tell me you are kidding about that comment...better yet, can you edit it and remove the silly line? You are opening pandora's box with a comment like that, my friend.

I wouldn't so much say kidding as say it was extreme (extremely inapropriate?) use of hyperbole. I do see it as a far less extreme -and in some ways less understandable- representation of the same mentality.

For the record I don't think I am explaning myself very well here, but I am 10 hours in to what is going to be a 14 hour day, killing 20 minutes before a community town-hall meeting.

When people act on these un-examined, sub-conscious, ingrained, socialized...call it what you want.... views it's not necessarily racism.
Yes it is usually inadvertent harm done to people unintentionally. But so is negligent homicide. At what point does negligence become irresponsible?

There have been attempts to educate people for years. I think that part of the problem is internalized racism within the victims. They begin to fear that any complaint is oversensitivity or whining.

Of course there are just as many "victims" who readily exploit guilt.

The cycle has to be broken by at least one side. One has to rise above the fray.

Once we get beyond the stereotyping of various groups it becomes easier to behave as a community (not necessarily a Communist) or a village.

This already happens in Europe where ethnic differences have been more subsumed by a recognition of common interests. That and the marginalization of monarchies has lead to more democratic societies.

The USA has more to do to meld much more varied ethnicities within a culture that celebrates selfish actions.
