I'm not sure of the answer to the specific question but my guess is that neither one of these teams will end up on the bottom at the end of the season. The next few weeks will tell.

I lived in Philly when McNabb arrived in town, and he was going to be the answer to all the problems(even though at the time no one thought we needed another quarterback, if I remember correctly), and for two seasons he did some pretty incredible stuff with a just better than mediocre team. But the gloss has worn off now, and I don't think the Eagles have anything to make them special. They sometimes play incredibly stupid ball, and one man cannot win a season. Lurie will soon be looking for new players.

It's interesting that the Eagles generate so much commentary on this site, of course with the likes of Joe in Philly stoking the fire....
PhillyFan
JIP should really quit stirring the fire and causing trouble.. and saying mean and nasty things to buc and cowgirl fans... that's not nice.

Actually, the gints (not a mistype) should win this game. I stand by my call in saying dmac should sit for a game or 2 to get healthy... if not the thumb.. the ankle and such.

Very sad, if the eagles lose this game... season could be over.

When do the sixers start?

Again, I'm being confused with PhillyFan.
PhillyFan
No Joe. maybe others are tired of your "button pushing" and name calling. That is not nice. heh.
mdphl
Yeah - that rotten JIP getting in everyone's faces and causing trouble. Just like at Gay Phillies Day when he threatened to throw the poor photographer over the fence and sent the Phillie Fanatic to attack me. Unlike that sweet, relaxed PhillyFan who never stirs things up. tongue.gif
PhillyFan
That would explain why, while walking down the street... JIP pushed that old woman out of the way and spit on her.... amazing cause i just thought he was in a hurry.

There is a bright spot and bleak spot to the eagles seasno... if the eagles win, i'll drink beer, if they lose i'll drink beer... Just a matter of how happy i am drinking the beer. But in the end always sweet, no matter what.

In my partisan Redskin view, it's better for the Giants to win this week because the Giants are at Minnesota next week, a likely loss and the Eagles are at home against the Jets, a possible win. We want to keep their losses even.

I agree with PF that McNabb should sit for at least one game if his thumb is impeading his ability to throw. One game isn't going to hurt him and he may learn something by watching. If the Eagles are to win this week I think the defense will have to come up big. Bobby Taylor should be back so that should help the secondary provided he is 100%.

Well, it looks like the field is going to be a little sloppy today, as it's raining here. But it's supposed to stop and maybe get sunny. Look for me, I'll be way up in the nosebleeds near the endzone. smile.gif

He also dropped another pretty easy pass.
He should really keep his mouth shut and learn to actually play the game.

The Giants are driving down the field with a 3-point lead, and another TD would've no doubt clinched the game against the putrid Eagles offense, but they turn it over...and eventually lose on a punt return TD by Brian Westbrook.

I think we can safely call this game "Miracle of the Meadowlands II."
pat125
The two turnovers by the Giants in the red zone certainly cost them. If they were to convert field goals from them, the TD punt return wouldn't have mattered. The Giants prevent offense before the punt didn't help matters either. Good win for the Eagles. Maybe it will turn their season around. But I wasn't impressed by their play either, and will need to play much better to get back into it.
phillyrunner
The Eagles general offensive play was bad once again, but this is a game of opportunities made. It is safe to say that the Eagles have stolen one game this year as the Giants have lost 2 sure wins in the last minute. Fassel most be going crazy as to how his team can put up big offensive yardage week after week and still lose.

I think the larger point is that people are going crazy with the team, and with Fassel. The play calling on the Giants' drive before the punt return TD was horrid. (Three rushes up the middle for what, -2 yds?) It seems from my memory the longest pass play for the Giants went for only 12 yds. Brian Mitchell was afraid to touch any punt that came near him, and the Eagles got a few friendly rolls as a result. Dorsey Leavens did OK, but why was Tiki Barber out of the game so much in the 3rd & 4th quarters? And so on. Two weeks in a row where the Giants outgain their opponent by more than 150 yds and still lose.

Incidentally, this was the first Giants game I had seen in person, thanks to tickets from a friend. Now I've seen the disintegration of this team with my own eyes.
PhillyFan
How can you complain about the 3 runs up the middle???? Under 2 minutes in the game. Ball on the 45. Run it 3 times and burn the eagles TO's. Feagles pins them back inside the 20 with no TO's left and a little over a minute left in the game.... Not to mention a team that you literally dominated from the 2nd qtr on. A team that had not crossed the 50 since the first qtr. NOW, please tell me how were the 3 running plays a bad call? The Giants lost on a fluke play, well poor coverage... The eagles were going for the punt block not a return, which makes it worse.

More blame should go to Kerry on the fumble down on the goal line that should have put the game away.

Did this game save the eagles season? Is the fat man's new game plan the... hope they run the punt back to win the game at the very end? "hey guys, here's how we win this week... Donavon why dont you go 5-35 today, then at the end of the game, we'll just pick off a pass and run it back... Thats the game plan lets execute it"...

For the second week in a row i'll say this.. dmac STINKS. Overthrow, underthrow, too hard... too high, too low... I mean come on. Then the passes that are close, they WR's drop. or they are just outta reach and need a circus catch to get it. I thought he played bad agaist the girls last week, well that was pro-bowl caliber.

I think any D could send 10 of the 11 to rush chunky soup and dmac wuold throw the ball for an int to the only defender out there...

I mean, everyone knows chunky sucks right now... except 2 people... the mule head coach, and the chunky soup guy.
mdphl
It was a bad game but, as an Eagles fan, a good result. Agree that McNabb seems to have totally lost it. My theory is that he is playind scared coming off his injury last year. He has now played 8 pathetic games since his return last season during the playoffs.

But - a win is a win... or something like that.
PhillyFan
Playing scared, playing hurt.... Point in fact, he's NOT playing right now.

Where the hell is the fire? Where is the leadership on this team? Oh yeah, they play on other teams now. I saw a point made in the paper today... if you read the quotes from the players, it's sound exatly like that stupid fat mormon coach.

This team doesnt need a war of words, but someone on the D to say hey..... we are playing our hearts out, with injuries.. and ya'all cant complete a pass? When does someone throw a fit in the locker room? Is this the new BYU East? No girls, no drinking, no cursing, no hurting feelings.... If i see thrash catch a 2 yard swing pass and point to the sky....i'm gonna scream.

Someone needs to sit down with dmac and say, Are you hurt? No, then start playing like the 100 million qb. If you dont, i'm going to bench you. If you are hurt, speak up now and take a game off. Your choice.

My complaint about the 3 running plays is that they got the Giants NOWHERE. Sure, the Eagles used up all of their timeouts to save time. But the Giants didn't even get close to a first down. First down and the game is done right there; there would be no chance for the special teams to screw up. And what guarantee was there that Feagles could pin Philly inside the 20? Punts in the 2nd half tended to die in mid-air b/c the wind picked up. The end of the game was predictable. The guy I drove down from Mass. to see the game with warned that a big return by the Eagles could set the Giants up for a loss. Lo and behold, right after he said it, that's what happened.
PhillyFan
Feagles couldnt pin them in the 20? Dude, what game were you watching? Feagles is the master at the directional punt. He was doing it all game long. The eagles return team had done squat all game long. That was a pooch punt, which are rarely ever returned for big yards.

Kerry had just been sacked earlier and fumbled the ball... The giants were also hitting big runs on the eagles in the second half. Running the ball 3 times is the correct call.
Joe in Philly
I also think that the Giants' running the ball at the end and burning the Eagles' timeouts was the right move, considering that the Eagles' offense is so inept that there was no way they were scoring. The error was in allowing the punt return for the TD. They needed to kick it out of bounds or into the end zone or just get it away from Westbrook.
amazin12
This game was not about burning the Eagles' timeouts, pooch-punting or running out the clock.
This Giants' effort (or lack of) was once again about TURNING THE FREAKIN' BALL OVER!!! They are the only team in the NFL that can drive down the field and have a higher T.O percentage than scoring percentage once they get inside the 20.
I'm a big Giants fan but I'm glad we lost this game. We didn't deserve this game. I don't want to win games 10-7 by sloppily turning the ball over. This is a real bad team right now. And they must have the WORST O-LINE in the entire NFL.
PhillyFan
Besides dmac's terrible play...

This was your typical gints=eggs game. They always seem to play games where crazy things happen.... blocked kicks... turnovers... 10-7 games... UFO's coming down and scoring td's... that stuff..

Yes, the Giants special teams were at fault for poor coverage of the punt, but I disagree that the Giant's "running" the ball (prevent offense) was the right move.

The Giants should have attempted at least one pass play to get a first down. Had they got the first down, the game is over, and there would have been no punt, or last chance Eagles' drive. Even if the Giants did not get the first down, it only meant that the Eagles would have got another 30 seconds. But since their offense was so inept, that 30 seconds wouldn't have made a difference.

Besides, the Giants' strategy of holding onto late 4th quarter leads sucks big time this year, approaching the quality of some of the Jets' hideous losses in the past. So Fassel should probably come up with a different strategy.

Pat, are you a Giants or Jets or neither fan? I've forgotten.
pat125
Hi Jim. I'm a Jets fan, but also want to see the Giants win. I went to the game with a friend who is a big Giants fan with season tickets. Needless to say, he wasn't thrilled with the outcome of the game.
Jim Allen
Ah, so being a Yankees fan, you can only back one winner at a time, eh? smile.gif

What's the general feeling about the Racist Drunk, er, Collins? He just seems really terminally mediocre.

A friend had Tiki Barber on his fantasy team. He was screaming at the TV on Sunday.
stinger85
I had Tiki on my fantasy team too, but I had benched him cuz I didn't think he'd do much against the eagles. I might leave him there too with Seubert going down. Their O-line was already pretty bad, which keeps Collins from playing well and has limited Tiki some what.

But as a Vikings fan, I'm looking forward to this weekends game. The Vikes front 4 were amazing against Denver and with Collins passing, Brian Russell should have great chance at extending his 6 game interception streak to 7!!

Hopefully this is payback for that horrible 2000 NFC championship loss.

Let's just say that it's not as easy being a Jets fan.

Actually, when I first starting following baseball and football in the early 70s, both the Yankees and Jets were, at best, mediocre teams.

As for Collins, I wasn't aware that there are allegations against him being a racist. As for his worth to the Giants, I suppose Giants fans can say more. Except for a couple of good games, he hasn't impressed me.
