Finally, my Dolphins have done something right for a change. Giving this position to
THE GREATEST QUARTERBACK to ever play the game is a great move!

Time will tell. Success on the field doesn't necessarily translate into success in the front office. Exhibit # 1 -- Matt Millen.
We'll see if Danno has (1) an eye for talent and (2) the head for managing the salary cap.
I wouldn't bet the house.

Exhibit #2 from the world of basketball -- Michael Jordan.
Unless Marino has shown GM tendencies as a player, I wouldn't necessarily think he'd make a good exec or coach. Few great players can translate their on-field greatness to the front office or to the coaching ranks.

It would be interesting to know, during his stints on CBS' pregame show and HBO's Inside the NFL, just how critical Marino has been of Dave Wanstedt and how that may impact their working relationship.

How will Marino's new job as head of football operations differ from the GM??

Everything I can remember hearing Marino say about the Dolphins was positive to the point of abandoning journalstic integrity (if sportscasters are expected to have any

)
He seemed pretty open about his loyalty and support of the organization as a fan and ex-player.

ESPN is reporting that
Marino is having second thoughts about accepting the job as Senior Vice President of Football Operations with the Dolphins....Wayne Huizenga has apparently offered him some time off after the Super Bowl to "think about the change in lifestyle that the new job will require"....I know Marino is accustomed to the limited work schedule associated with being a television commentator (I presume he still owns the restaurants bearing his name in South Florida, too, which rarely, if ever, require him to be "on the premises") but this change of heart definitely comes as a surprise.

I think its obvious to everyone in South Florida that Dave Wannstadt has to go. Sure, he went 10-6 this year, but for the Dolphins its a never ending story. Hot starts in the hot south Florida sun followed by a collapse as it gets colder. After Wannstadt leaves they need a viable quarterback. This move with Dan Marino seems to be nothing more than fluff. New England has nothing to worry about from the Dolphins next year. By the way don't know if you all have seen Rick Spielman, the GM, he is awful hot. Check him out:

I read in the paper that Marino denies having second thoughts about taking the job. Then again, between his HBO and CBS shows, he couldn't decide who would win the NFC Championship game. On one show he picked the Eagles while on the other he picked the Panthers.

Oh nice, that kind of decisiveness makes me feel great about the Dolphins chances next year...I guess the tailgate party will become the best part of Sunday gameday from now on...

Marino did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. Yesterday, he denied having second thoughts about taking the job. Today, he quit. What a shock.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen has just reported that Marino has resigned from the position with the Dolphins after 3 weeks!

Yeah Dan committed to this job like Britany commits to marriage.

To me, the bizarre thing is not that Marino quit, but that he ever accepted the job in the first instance. He's got it made in broadcasting, where there are no hard measurements of success and failure, he gets a handsome income, doesn't have to work that hard.
If he took the Dolphins job, he'd have been judged on the team's success, but it's not clear he'd have had the authority to influence that success. He was stuck with Wanny as head coach, and the Fiedler/Griese combo at QB (Brunell is not the answer).
Dumb to take the job. Smart to bail.

The Dolphins are on the verge of becoming a joke. Hey I got an idea; why don't we just bring Don Shula back! Wouldn't that be swell! It's not such a bad idea, Dan Snyder just brought Joe Gibbs back! Shoot, if we did that we could make Dave Wannstedt the GM and promote Rick Spielman to Senior VP.
Seriously, unless Wannstedt goes, and an experienced, proven quarterback is found, this team won't be 8-8 next year.
