In a move that is several months too late, the White House is sending a new resolution before the Security Council. The resolution will ask UN members to become part of a broader coalition involved in the rebuilding of Iraq.

The resolution would call for a multi-national force on the ground to help relieve our own troops. It would also open the door for the UN to play a larger role in the rebuilding process, particularly around the development of the new Iraqi government.

One must wonder why it took this many months for the administration to realize they had to have international help to pull this off. It was rather clear to most of the world before any ground action even took place.

And what exactly does this do for the administration's whole theory of pre-emptive strikes? We may be able to launch the original strike, but without world support, we will never accomplish any kind of real change in the world through military action.

It will be interesting to see who gets on board with this resolution. Some countries have stated a distinct hesitancy getting involved in something that is still generally under the control of the White House.

Where is all that help we were going to get from the coalition of the willing? We need some assistance from the powerhouse countries Bushie put together...Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia...

A bit too late Shrub!!! You should have thought about this first instead of last!

If pre-emption is to work America needs a permanent Colonial Department which can swing into action when a new territory is conquered rather than trying to set up an interim administration on an ad hoc basis. That means putting experienced people into every town and village quickly with full powers to set up policing, courts, repair/provide infrastructure and so on.

In the days of the British Empire these were prestigious jobs recruiting from the upper-middle classes.

I welcome this move even it is comes this late in the game.
What remains to be seen is IF we will get any help, and at what cost.

Well, we won't get the help we need with the likes of Ken Adelman and Paul Bremer continually insulting the nations (France, Germany) whose dollars and soldiers we're counting on.
