Al Sharpton quits the run for president but will continue collecting delegates. CNN Reports.

Gee, yesterday's NY Post editorial trashing him over the weekend had results.

I for one hope the D.N.C. at least lets him give a speech or two at the convention. One thing Al does, is tell it like it is baby. He understands gay and lezbian discrimination, and frequently has brought this subject up at debates.

I agree, puckman1, that's why I voted for him since JFK had the nomination wrapped up. I hope he can get more delegates. We need him to speak at the convention!

That potential speech seems to be the primary goal of his entire campaign. It should be entertaining and inciteful. But I think credible response to the issues he raises should be the motivation for his supporters to vote. Unfortuantely I think it will take some last minute emotional appeal or event to bring out many of the voters he's trying to inspire.

I hope his speech is as insightful as inciteful, particularly on the issue of LGBT equality, but even brilliant oratory won't end the fact he's destroyed whatever little credibility he had left through his dealings with people in the GOP who were using him. The whole scenario was disgusting.

What I also think isn't going to change is that both parties will again take black voters outside the 18 battleground states for granted.

Interesting related thing here, FT...

On this evening's local news, one of the political reporters was talking about the U.S. Senate race here in Illinois. When he discussed the Democrats and State Sen. Barack Obama (who is black) having a double-digit lead over the party candidate IL. Comptroller Dan Hynes (who is white), the reporter indicated that Hynes's approval rating among African American voters was around 2%. Obama's was over 70%, which is to be expected for him, I guess.

But Hynes, the party's official candidate, isn't even winning in the city. The news reporter seemed stunned.

Wow gee Sharpton spent lots of money and lived like a king while running for President of the United States? What candidate hasnt?!

Everyone candidate is a high roller in the eyes of a normal every day American. Who else has millions of dollars to spend traveling the country and talking about nothing? Maybe Paris Hilton.

The man lost. Leave it be. He'll pay back whatever he may have overspent. Howard Dean even spent more than $2 million over budget and had to keep emailing people to ask for donations even after his drop out so he could pay the debt back.
