I just got a new job as a Student Life Specialist in the Student Life Office here at a community college. I am getting paid much less than I should though (25,000) and the job is far less than I could do. After 4 years of undergrad, two years of Grad, and getting started on a PhD you would assume it would be slightly easier to get a nice job. Not here though, things are too tight! Two and a half years ago I saw Higher Education job openings all over the place. Now I face Budget Cuts and Hiring Freezes. I hope we get a better economy soon!

Bush promises "better days ahead"
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...1732EDT0288.DTLBush said he wanted to tell students at the campus auditorium "there are better days ahead when it comes for finding work."

This is probably true, but those "better days" probably wont be until Jan 2005.

"Better days ahead". But when? Five years, 10 years???I read in my business section this morning, where unelmployment in Spokane County went up...again. Its now at 6.9%. Terrible!!!! But wait, I am sure our Democratic Governor (Locke) is totally to blame here, right? wink Don't think so.

Well, things here in southern Cal are really awful. I do not expect the situation to improve much for the next year or so. What amazes me is the cost of homes still is soaring. I purchased tiny house, apx 950 sq ft, postage stamp yard 5 years ago for 125K, today it would fetch 320K.
I think it might be time to cash out and move to Hawaii and open a kyack rental business!

You could buy a big ole' "ranch" in Crawford Tx for that. I hear it's a charming one stoplight town with a nice coffee shop, just beware of idiots trying to ride Segways.
