Good year! The Northridge Earthquake started the year off "shakily," (sorry, no pun intended).
I was 24, I came out to everybody, I was meeting men and dating without having expectations, I passed my M.A. Exams and I soon moved to Germany for 4 years!

Not according to this gentleman, who offers an excellent analysis on the 2006 congressional elections.

One big factor that guy left out in his analysis is the indepedent vote. Sure, we know where the Democrats and Republicans usually fall, but what we're seeing this year is that dislike for Bush and the GOP is nearly as intense among independents as it is with Democrats. Even if party registration were 37% to 37% Dems to GOP, there's still a large block of 26% (although probably with lower turnout) independents that can decide the election. With the advantages of incumbancy and impact of gerrymandered districts these days, I doubt we'll ever see a 1974 style watershed election again, but something even a third that size is easily possible.

One thing's for sure--no one knows what's going to happen. Not even I, in my infinite wisdom, can discern the eventual outcome.
