I thought for sure there would be an existing thread specifically on the subject of John Kerry's campaign in which to post this, but strangely there does not appear to be one.

Anyway, I was surprised to learn that Diana Kerry was at a local restaurant yesterday to campaign on behalf of her brother. There are something like 100,000 U.S. citizens living in the Calgary area, though I must admit I don't know any of them; I guess, unlike me, they are all in the oil and gas industry! It seems like an astute move by the Democrats to appeal to ex-patriate (as opposed to ex-patriot) voters, especially if the race between the two parties is tight. So far I haven't heard of any Republicans coming across the border to woo American voters living in Canada.

I read this article the other day about how the campaigns are targeting Americans living abroad. Israel is an important target...

QUOTE
Contrary to widespread belief, it was more likely that American voters in Israel, not Florida, put George W. Bush in the White House four years ago - a phenomenon that has Kerry's supporters in Israel vowing to do whatever it takes to make certain that doesn't happen again in November....

Those who doubt that Americans living abroad could tip the balance in 2004 might consider this: Various chads aside, Al Gore received 202 more votes than George W. Bush on Election Day 2000 in Florida. Only after all the overseas votes were counted, including more than 12,000 from Israel alone, was Bush's election victory certified. The margin was 537 votes.
