Now, William, privatizing social security and education are not ideas that will radically transform society. In fact, both those ideas are actually a return to earlier days, when retirement was an individual's and not a government's responsibility and education (at least beyond 8th grade) was the responsibility of the family. The only change is using public funds, rather than private ones. Again, I am not putting a value judgement on either idea (although with the shape my retirement account is in, I am looking forward to the public handout of Social Security), just defending my position.

Either way, what was once revolutionary is now status quo, and what was once status quo has become revolutionary. Also, nobody's seriously talking (yet) about completely privatizing Social Security. The Bush plan would allow people to choose to keep part of their tax dollars in a private account. And nobody's talking about defunding public education, but simply allowing families to get their kids out of bad public schools.

while members of the media may be liberal (probably from spending too much time muck raking and reporting on the problems of our society - damn bleeding hearts), media companies are not.

Tom Brokaw has made comments similar to this - he says that people perceive the media as "liberal" because they cover those "bleeding heart", human interest stories - poverty, discrimination, human rights, etc.

I can't find the exact quote, but it was a good point.

Nobody's suggesting Fox News is liberal, though the hirings of Greta Van Sustern and Geraldo are cause for concern. To say "the media" is liberal is not to say every single news outlet everywhere at every time is always liberal, but just that in general the media tends to show a liberal bias in reporting, story choices, questions, etc.

Mais la France est un pays vraiment libéral et vous êtes trop conservateur, n'est-ce pas? Qu'est-ce que c'est dont il s'agit? Je n'y suis pas!

Romania is more like it.
