As many of you know, the "pro-family" movement has been going after corporations who have the audacity to treat gay and lesbian consumers like human beings (e.g., worthy of respect). There were the American Family Association's boycott of Disney, and later threatened boycott of Ford, followed by attacks on Johnson and Johnson for advertising in gay publications and sponsoring the Gay Games.
Now Concerned Women for America, which is run by Beverly LaHaye, wife of Tim LaHaye, co-writer of the "Left Behind" rapture sci-fi series, is going after Starbucks - because they sponsor gay pride parades and festivals (and even let their employees march in them!) and because they are using a quote from Armistead Maupin, author of the "Tales of the City" series, on a coffee cup (the quote basically states he wishes he had come out earlier, because life is too short to waste).
CWFA's issue with Starbucks
The really ironic part - LaHaye's son, Lee, who is treasurer of CWFA, is a flaming homosexual!
Oh, the hypocrisy.
After the Microsoft cave on gay rights, though, it is important that we show our support for companies that recognize gay and lesbian consumers can be a good market. The following link allows you to send a message to the company.
Starbucks comment form
As a huge fan of bitter, strong coffee (no joking), I have already sent off my support email.
