A new scandal grips Washington:

When White House Pets Attack

In light of Barney's irresponsible and frankly offensive behavior (many of the children he frightened seem to be African-American), perhaps Democrats will call for the dog to be put to sleep.

This isn't funny. If you are attempting to compare this to the recent segrationist, idiotic, and repugnant comments that you idol, Trent Lott, made, then you are more out of the realm than I thought. The insensitive comments that Lott made are totally unforgivable and shouldn't be made light of. I am an African American gay male (double minority) and I know that I am speaking for the other minority posters on this site as well as other non-minority posters, when I say, "William, you just don't get it!!" I usually have a great sense of humor about many things, except when it comes to this. Just think about all of the sacrifices (deaths, humilation, etc.) that all of the minorities have made, so that their ancestors (minorities and non-minorities) will have a better future. Do you truly believe in Lott's philosophy of going back to "white only" water fountains, restrooms, and other facilities? This is the year 2002, not 1962!! We only bring up these issues when the situation presents itself. Lott should be saying, "Open mouth...insert foot" Minorities only get angry when it is warranted. A happy dog running around is not a warranted situation to be outraged about. I watched the telecast this morning, and it was all a totally innocent situation, it was actually cute and funny, and not offensive at all. But, when a person, in a position of high authority says,........

And all this time I thought they were talking about Barney Frank!

Q: How many liberals does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: That's not funny.

Dude, really, just go f**k yourself. For you to suggest that I am a racist and a segregationist, and then to wrap your pathetic little accusations in this, "I'm black, you can't criticize me," is just f**king . . . I don't even know what. I am in a rage right now. And all because of a joke about a dog. f**k you. f**k you. f**k you. f**k you. f**k you. f**k you. You are such a f**king bastard. I really don't appreciate your accuastions. For what it's worth, the only time I have ever been physically hit, like actually assaulted, to some extent, is when my Mom slapped the f**k out of me when I was probably nine or ten years old because I used the word "nigger." She punched my scrawny little ass, as well she should, and then gave me about a twenty-five minute lecture about how horrible that word is, and what if the black people I knew and loved, our friends, my mom's coworkers, etc. (like Trent, I too have black friends) had heard me say that horrible word. She then grounded me for a week (inasmuch as a ten year old can be grounded - basically no tv) and told me to never, ever use that word again, ever. And I never have, except for just now to tell this story (I refuse to say "the n-word," because I feel it takes away from the true horror of that word.) And all this took place in Mississippi, where I grew up!!! And my mom was and is to this day a staunch Republican who is actually in those Republican Women's Clubs you hear about. So, I mean, really. Just go f**k yourself. How dare you even suggest I support racism and segregation just because I don't agree with your every word? Just go f**k yourself.

Whoa, William!!!! Talk about incivility and a totally out of control response! You can reply to SmoothRon, as you've replied forcefully to me and others, without all the cursewords. I mean, come on!

If we can't have a discussion, however pitched, on this board, or if you so strongly disagree with him that you have to resort to cussing and harsh verbal attacks, why not just drop it altogether? Otherwise the discourse is completely poisoned.

He accused me of supporting racism and segregation, all over a stupid joke about a dog (a joke that was targeted at the media's tendency to blow minor occurences out of proportion, and the Democrats' political opportunism, not at any minority group). The discourse was poisoned right there. Moreover, I cuss alot when I get mad. It's how I express myself.
