So Attorney General John Ashcroft is testifying on how he wants even more power in the fight against terrorism I see and hear. So like, John exactly how much more power do you want/need??. You don't think you have enough already??????
No, hell, no!!!!! Who was it that said "absolute power, corrupts absolutely". We are losing our battle for civil rights here. I saw on the news today where a library in Palo Alto has gone to the extreme measure of shredding documents that show what people are reading?? This is scary people. :mad:

Ashcroft is saying that patriot Acts 1 and 2 are needed (with need for even more later) to stop terrorism. According to him, the infringement of constitutional rights and the suspension of America as we know it is necessary to preserve our safety.

I got a better idea. Why don't we just declare martial law, place every single citizen under house arrest and build a 20 foot barbed wire fence around the borders. That'll really make sure we stop those terrorists. (what? east germany did that already? damn!!!)

Why does he need MORE power, when the country still has not done basic things like secure all nuclear infrastructure; develop a plan for scanning all incoming cargo; secure our borders (hello??? remember those Mexican and Latino immigrants who died in the back of that truck--what if there are Al Qaeda folks crossing into Texas and Arizona, etc.???); track all foreign students; etc. I mean, there are so many basic things Ashkkkroft could be doing but he is just orgasming on the power. It's frightening--and he just wants MORE!

The people of Missouri had it right; this guy never should have been returned to any national office.

Not to mention there is still not a plan in place to evacuate DC if it should, God forbid, ever become necessary - this is the issue that apparently keeps the Metro System Chief up at night with cold sweats.

Big brother is alive and growing well, isn't he?? Its getting scarier by the day people. frown

He is a pretty scary guy. It seems like if you give up privacy for security you lose both in the end. I'm all for increased security but it seems like Ashcroft wants the power to look where something isn't and not be responsible for the mess when nothing turns up. To me, If you have concrete proof, go for it. I may have a hawk attitude, but, I want clear reason and evidence before my goverment makes a move. Sounds like Joe McCarthy is back for more. I'm not sure I like that.
