Fred is on his way to
Sweden. Considering the fact that his new website GodHatesSweden seems to have broken several Swedish laws, not to mention apparent terroristic threats against the person of the Swedish king, I do hope he has an interesting time in customs.

I just hope they keep him--we don't want him back
I hope they can find the Swedish equivalent of Guatanamo Bay to send him to--there must be some small islands in the northern Gulf of Bothnia where they could ship him.

I actually read about this on a Swedish website. They are a bit concerned about his threats to stalk the Swedish king and his family so security has been alerted but in general they view him as an American crackpot who hates almost everybody. They did mention his behaviour during the Matthew Sheppard funeral as an example, and wondered why he wasn't stalking the Spanish king given Spain's new laws on same sex marriage. Then again Spanish security would probably just shoot him. I hope some gay customs officer strip searches him on arrival in Stockholm.

God hates Sweden????
How does he know that?
I've been looking through the Bible many times over here and still can't find a reference to any animosity by God towards Sweden.
Heck, I can't even find any reference to Sweden in the Bible....help us out Fred???
Heck, does anyone hate Sweden, and why?? I can't think of any good Swedish jokes.....

Globe & Mail Guess Fred had one more task to do before bringing his special brand of religion to the Swedes. Protesting at a military funeral because apprently US soldiers die in Iraq because of gays in America. Seriously, could this guy pass a sanity test?

He was suposse to come to our city Plattsburgh this year durring our Mayor's Cup. He never showed but some of his people did. We had at 70 people protesting them at all times. Only like 20 of his curch fellowers showed up, they were suposse to be here for the whole week of Mayor's Cup but only stayed 2 days:) Our city came together when we found out he was comming, and started a Stop Hate group this is the link for the group if you want to see more about it.

I'm not willing to post a link to a Westboro website, but on one of his sites, the one in which he deigns to speak for G-d on the topic of Sweden, he's announced that he will be picketing the Swedish monarch during Labor Day weekend. That's the only corroboration I've been able to find about the trip and it isn't on his official intenerary on the website dedicated to G-d's opinion of homosexuals. I'm sure it'll make news when he's picked up at the airport to stand trial for his heinous words. However, if the State Department does its job and revokes the man's passport, I don't think we'll be hearing much about it.

They're going to picket the funeral of Justice Rehnquist...and said, on their website, "thank God for Katrina." Uh, yeah. So when an F-5 rips through Westboro, is he gonna claim that's God's doing too?
And, if America is such a "fag nation" (their words, not mine), then why don't they move to a more "righteous" nation? I hear Iran is a lovely place for fundamentalists.

Gee, did he postpone his trip to Sweden so he could get to the CJ's funeral? And just what does he have against the late CJ anyway? Its not as if he ever did anything to make the lives of gays any easier in the US.

I won't even attempt to understand what motivates Phelps and his clan, but I'm pretty sure the sodomy decision last year probably upset him just a tad...
It's funny that he seems to hate this nation so much; however, this is one of the few where he could spout his hateful filth and not be held accountable.

My understanding is that Rehnquist lived next door to a gay couple. I guess Phelps hated him because he didn't hang them from the highest tree or shoot them in the head.

I will dance on Phelps grave and spit in the face of his wife. Actually, I will probably pray for his soul, since he is doomed to Hell. Never mind about his wife, she surely will die from her own bitterness and hatred. Hopefully, each will suffer a slow and agonizing death. That would give us plenty of time to mail out get-well cards.

The Swedes should keep Phelps out of their nation. He could be a great threat to Swedish citizens. He and his family are criminally insane. They could be capable of great violence. I don't understand Phelp's obsession with the Swedish royal family. Linden LaRouche always had an obsession with Queen Elizabeth and the British royal family. There are some frightening stalkers out there in la la land.

OK, how about an old dilapidated sanitorium in the woods that has no other residents and was condemned 50 yrs ago.

I need somebody to explain to me how the Phelps crazies lost their case...I can't stomach their protesting and beliefs, but I assumed they had a right to peacefully assemble to protest. Yes, it's unbelievably tacky/hurtful/disgusting that they choose to voice their wacky beliefs at any funeral; however, I see this as a First Amendment thing. The First Amendment doesn't exist for those things we agree with, right?
We don't have a right to NOT be offended in this country. We just have to turn away or cover our ears if we dislike what is going on.
Again, I'm not defending what the Phelps clan believes. I only defend their right to speak those beliefs.

The First Amendment issue is indeed controversial, and could cause the jury's decision to be reversed on appeal.

The jury found the defendants liable for violating the Snyder family's
expectation of privacy at the funeral and for intentionally inflicting

As this item was airing on the news this morning, I told my mother to watch and check this out...She got confused by it, she kept saying "Wait, they are church and they are picketing a funeral?" "They love God but preach hate?" And then when I told her that everything that happens in the world, they blame it all on the acceptance of gays.
She says "What a bunch of whackos"

My big concern about Fred Phelps and his ilk (most with the same last name), is that everyone knows that he is a wingnut, and doesn't represent anything remotely connected to mainstream America, either left or right wing,
BUT
What he does do, in his rantings and ravings, is artificially give the appearance of moderation by the more right wing members of the Republican Party. Like the ones at the Values summit last weekend. One of them, who I don't remember right now, called for "quarantining of the Sodomites". And this from one of their FEATURED speakers. Romney has turned virulently anti-gay, and there are a lot of the extreme right wing who wouldn't bat an eyelash if they set up American versions of concentration camps.
It is THOSE people that we need to keep the spotlight on. As long as Fred Phelps gets the extremist limelight, they will be able to spout their views in relative silence.
