First Delay says that federal judges will have to \"answer for their behavior\" in the Schiavo matter.

Now Sen. Cornyn of Texas claims the recent violence against judges is their own fault!

So the logic goes, the activist judges are out of touch and unaccountable to the public, thereby resulting in (justifiable?) violence against them? I can't fathom what goes through these idiots minds when they say such things.

Well, an article in the Washington Post today completely refuted the basic premise of his statement.

QUOTE
In a recent New York Times article, John Kane, a senior judge in the U.S. District Court for Colorado, wrote: \"Since 1970, 10 state and federal judges have been murdered, seven of them in job-related incidents. Those who threaten judges are almost always disturbed individuals seeking revenge. . . . Of the three federal judges killed in the last quarter-century, all were killed by men disgruntled with their treatment from the federal judicial system.\"
But more importantly, since people like Tom Delay are only accountable to the voters in their districts, don't Cornyn's comments provide justification for violence against pretty much all political officials outside of the President (as a resident of DC, I apparently get open season on the whole Congress)?

isn't it ironic that senator cornyn of texas, himself, was formerly a texas supreme court justice and a bexar county district judge ( not to mention texas attorney general).

his comments are just the height of hypocrisy

These are just two more examples of Texas Republicans shooting off their mouths without really thinking, assuming they can think. What IS it down there that seems to make Texans - native and transplanted ones, left and right - so wild? Lack of flouride in the water? "Too much alcohol in the decanting solution?" All those drive-thru "ice houses?"

Seriously, Cornyn is better described as a politician than as a judge, because the state bench in TX, including its Supreme and appellate courts, is almost entirely elected and has a fairly high turnover rate.

Yeah, it's just a shame that George W. and Dick Cheney are a part of the previous examples of Texas republicans who cannot think. But at least I can say I did not vote for ANY of these Texans. Can you? rolleyes.gif

Horner, I'd thought I'd stampede some Longhorns with that quip. wink

Separate topic on the President and his Veep, but I thought Cheney was from MT.

Only on paper to get on the ballot with a fellow Texan. He lived in Texas (Dallas) for years while working at Halliburton. Sorry to get off topic.

Now, back to the idiot Republicans declaring open season on judges. Who's next up to the plate for the GOP, the party of and for Tom DeLay? rolleyes.gif

Not to be a wiseguy, but I had a very good friend from MT a few years back and I just couldn't allow the Big Sky Country to suffer such slander wink Dick-head is from Wyoming, and if memory serves me correctly he was part of the wave of geniuses (Dan potatoe Quayle)that was swept into Congress with Raygun.

Right you are, Tim, and thanks, HF, for the info on Cheney in TX. Quayle is, alas, a fellow Hoosier, now removed to NM.

VP Cheney hails from Wyoming, where he was an elected US Congressman from 1977-1989.
