http://www.ajc.com/news/content/news/0803/...3/14paycut.htmlWASHINGTON -- The Pentagon wants to cut the pay of its 148,000 U.S. troops in Iraq, who are already contending with guerrilla-style attacks, homesickness and 120-degree-plus heat.
A White House spokesman referred questions about the administration's view on the pay cut to the Pentagon report.

What a bunch of whining cry babies, dont the troops know that Bush supports them? He proved it by that last big tax cut.
Pres Bush, at his pig farm in Crawford, had no comment as he was preparing for his next fundraising event.

I saw this a few weeks ago, and was shocked and awed by it.
To this day I do not understand why troops on active duty have to pay taxes, let alone have their duty pay cut. But then again they Feds are talking about have to cut back on vets health care too...

Don't talk about tax cuts, Raze will get upset. At any rate, IF this report is accurate, it's a terrible idea. Big if, though.

Yeah, just because it's been reported by every media organization, is IN the Pentagon budget, and has even been satirized in The Onion, Wm1865's astrologer has to confirm it. "Big if."

Liberals are the ones who want to cut $60 billion out of the Pentagon budget, so it's odd that you're bitching about there not being enough money for the Pentagon. We'd probably turn the Pentagon into public housing and abortion clinics if you guys were in charge, so I think all in all we're lucky.

Oh please, don't throw yet another example of the craven cheapness of these lying, military-service avoiding administration creeps on liberals.
W and company have lied about why we're there, they've lied about how they're treating the troops, they're lying about the conditions the soldiers are facing, and they are more willing to give tax giveaways to their wealthy funders than to the poor troops who are giving their lives for this sorry cause. It's digusting, but sadly typical.

Being a 6 year veteran, and having just been just honorably discharged a couple of years ago, I am deeply disturbed and disgusted by our government right now!! How they can justify OUR soldiers'(some being close friends of mine) presence over there in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, and Liberia among other places on one hand, while at the same time cutting their pay isn't even rational and should be considered utterly unconstitutional by the general public. This just isn't right!!

Ironic that troops like azairforce are supporting and defending the very same Constitution that the current administration is doing its best to gut.
More field rations soldier? Enjoy it before that's cut too.

IMO if we are at "war" then we should do what it takes to win on the home front too. If that means a special 1% sales tax on gas/oil to pay for the troops so be it. Maybe if we all shared the pain we would think about what it maens to wage war.

He and Rummy are supporters of the weapons contractors who contributed to his campaign, not the troops ... and especially not the enlisted personnel most affected by cuts like this.

The last war (excuse me, "conflict") where we even
attempted that was Korea, and the last time we were serious about it was WW2. Since Nam and LBJ, the philosophy has been "Guns and butter, and send the grandkids the bill" (debt). The whole concept of cost-push inflation (remember that one?) came from the arms vendors in the '60s.

I remember,, but think that is part of the reason why so many people support the "war"...there is effect on the homefront

Hia PhillyFan, hope you found some petro!
So I really would like to know what you think about a paycut for the troops, and the thought of a new source of funding if the DOD can not afford the cost of the hazard pay...

Iraq War, Funding Cuts Strain Veterans Facilities QUOTE
By Lawrence Morahan
CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer
August 08, 2003
(CNSNews.com) - Streams of wounded American soldiers arriving daily from Iraq and waiting lists in the tens of thousands at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facilities around the country are highlighting crucial under-funding problems in veterans care, a spokesman for the nation's largest vets organization said Thursday.
....
Further depleting veterans funds, the House of Representatives two weeks ago passed a 2004 fiscal year appropriations bill that fell $1.8 billion short of the VA health care spending target House members approved in an April budget resolution, March said.
Funding for veterans' health care is the delayed cost of war, he said.
\"As the war on terrorism continues, as our young men and women are...deployed to over 130 different countries around the world - not to mention Afghanistan and Iraq - it is vitally imperative that we as a nation ensure that the Veterans Administration health care system is in place,\" March said.
The VA this week announced a plan to restructure its health care services, including the closing of seven VA hospitals and major changes at other facilities.

"source of new funding?" why tax cuts, of course!
