From another thread
Falconpride:
Here's one that never fails to make my blood boil. Walking down the now famous Liberty Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh (which is NOTHING like the Liberty Ave. in "Queer as Folk"), I am frequently greeted by Pro-Life protesters in front of Planned Parenthood. They carry with them ignorance and large posters of aborted fetuses.
I'm not opposed to people protesting, and this isn't a pro-choice/pro-life debate. It's the fact that mothers have to console their young children after the kids see these graphic images. I'm surprised that no injuctions have been granted to stop them from using these pictures. There's also the fact that these protesters are in violation of Pittsburgh city ordinances, due to their proximity of Planned Parenthood (the law says they must be at least a few blocks away; instead, they're right at the doorstep). Someone turn these self-righteous morons into Swiss cheese!

Obviously you are.

Ah, the ole liberal "I'm for free speech unless it's something with which I disagree."
Oh! The hypocrisy! [Eek!]
It's called free speech, and if someone shows truthful pictures of what the result of abortion is, more power to them.
Was it appropriate to show the bodies of the Holocaust victims, for example? Thousands of alive and dead people were constantly shown in pictures and other publications. Anti-Bush protestors today show bodies of people killed in the war.
No one said free speech had to be aesthetic.
Anyway, I don't want this to veer into politics; there is a section for that. This thread could be risking closure if that happens.
-------------------------------------------------
My argument is that these pictures hurt actual children, and that's Falconpride's point, that children shouldn't be exposed to graphic images that disturb adults. The last point has some validity, and I would be against that same type of protest if held in the public forum.
It's disgusting, and exposing small kids (you know, the kind outside of the womb MIB) is wrong.

While I think abortion is wrong, I also feel it should be kept legal. Let God judge those who feel the need to have an abortion. I'd rather have it kept legal and women safe instead of dying in a back alley. As for the graphicness (not sure if that's really a word) of the posters, I feel that is wrong too. It is gross. I am sure these folks would be grossed out by two men kissing, yet they feel it is their right to gross me out. I have seen them from time to time along Lake Shore Drive in Grant Park. I have been tempted to stop my car, calmly walk over to them, and ask them how many unwanted children they have adopted. I would wait until they count to zero. It is that point that irks me to no end with people like that.

millerbeach, you're at least nice about it. While I agree that seeing photos of aborted fetuses is pretty sickening, the hypocrisy of many of the individuals displaying them is no less sickening in my opinion. I have asked several of them to pony up the bucks that our welfare system is being asked to pay for some of those unwanted fetuses. It amazes and angers me how some people can care for life up until the baby is born, then that same caring disappears like a rabbit into a magician's black top hat.
As our compatriot MIB would say, "Oh, the hypocrisy!"

There is a right way to protest and a wrong way. These "in your face" ones with the graphic pictures are the wrong way. If you are against abortion, then make a sign saying it's wrong, and provide pamphlets or whatever to back up your claim. Not with these horrific images. NO ONE needs to see them.
It's funny when Ump...I mean MIB's opinion was challenged, like a good right winger puts up his hands "That's it, I'm done discussing...I'm finished"
Take the following statement:
"That yellow shirt doesn't look good with those pants"
A liberals mind sees this statement as simply stating the yellow shirt in question doesn't match the pants.
In MIB's mind, when this statement is made it's interpreted as you hating the yellow shirt, you hate everything yellow, you hate bananas, and you want to rid the world of the color yellow.
Just because someone doesn't like horrible images being paraded around on the street in front of children DOES NOT mean you are for abortion.

It looks like I unwittingly sparked a political debate. Guess I should've thought about that one beforehand, huh?

. But you guys are on-target; the point I'm trying to make is not pro-life/pro-choice.
If AND ONLY IF (sorry for the disclaimer) my fellow Jews started carrying posters of Jesus nailed to the cross, I would be shocked and outraged, and would be trying to make them desist as well.
I also find it funny that MIB started the debate, then chose not to finish it. If you make a comment, be prepared to back it up. And Chill, did MIB used to have a different handle? I saw this "It's funny when Ump...I mean MIB's", and just wondered.
