Quite a story by Desmond Butler and Don Van Natta Jr. in today's NY Times:
Qaeda Informant Helps Trace Group's Trail

Why do I call Shadi Abdullah, the captured informant, "homosexual"? To quote him: "I wanted to come to Germany to start a new life. Another reason was the opportunity to live a freer life in Germany. This involves my sexual tendencies toward men. I had expected problems and disadvantages in relation to this in Jordan. So I traveled with Abu Ali to Germany."

More in the Times (subscription req'd).

Once again, proof that we're everywhere, no matter how homophobic the organization. With so much religion-imposed sexual segregation among these groups, this doesn't surprise.

He seems to have spoken quite openly with the German interrogators.

BTW, there seem to be a lot of "Shadi Abdullah" people in the news:

*One is the above referenced man, 26 years old.

*Another is a Lebanese pop singer.

*A third is a young Palestinian man who was killed in the last two years.

This is an interesting distinction you make, sportinlife, a la Tuaolo.

Some of us (a great number?) seem to be destined to work in fields, at least for a time, where the homophobia is the WORST in the world, as that is our life mission - not just in the arts, interior decorating, and floral entrepreneurship.

Excellent point, well taken, sportinlife. biggrin.gif smile.gif
