Unbelievable, when even Karzai's BROTHER and aide says, \"What was promised to Afghans with the collapse of the Taliban was a new life of hope and change. But what was delivered? Nothing. Everyone is back in business... There have been no significant changes for people.\" (AP)

What do you pro-war, Thomas Friedman-style fantasists who believe that the U.S. is going to follow through on assuring democracy in Iraq say to this?

I also saw this in the Guardian UK . It doesn't matter though. So long as Bush says he's going to do something, whether or not he really follows through on the hard part(s), that's all that counts. So now we're in Iraq. If they slaughter each other afterwards (that is, after we've taken control of the northern and southern oilfields and placed a puppet in control), then so be it. At least Saddam won't be around to thumb his nose at us. rolleyes.gif

It does continue to dismay me that the administration can continually make promises, not deliver, and people still support them as having good intentions.

The list of programs and initiatives that are promised and then left to die on the vine has become too long to even remember without referring back to several documents.

I believe this administration will go down in history as the most counter-productive, and (far worse) the one that undermined our gains across the globe most substantially. Many other countries will not trust our leaders for some time to come. Progress will be won on the battlefield, not at the diplomatic tables. Who really wants to live in that type of a world?

Oh sorry the new Govt hasnt completely turned the country around in a year... 50 years of turning the country into a "stone age country" does not get fixed overnight... Then again, you will have unreal unreachable goals so long as Bush is in the white house...

Right...but, come next year (18 months from now), America is gonna go, stampeding to the polls, for the next Republican presidency.....

*What kind of platform will Patrick Guerriero have then? By the way...what is LCR doing these days (PLEASE DON'T RESPOND: the 4 guys and, maybe, 3 ladies who are conscientiously objecting the aggression on Iraq within LCR).

*What kind of America will we have to believe in?

*What kind of America will we have to share with our young relatives, mentees, and students?

*What kind of workplaces and workplace law will we have?

*What kind of American justice system will we have?

*How will we get the American we already have to work together when all the Iraq casualty records are complete? Just erect another memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.?

*What will the prevailing sentiment be when companies around the globe realize that the work to rebuild Iraq was never available to any but American firms and that the work was signed on months prior to the first inquiries?

*What kind of America will we have to entertain, and who will be "priviledged enough" to entertain American audiences?

*What difference will it make that we're not trusted, ANYWHERE in the world, 2-3 years from now? Well, no more international vacations/fellowships/gigs in any place other than a U.S. military zone...but, no matter!

No worries, mate!

Any "differences" of opinion will be, assuredly, handled with a "target" operation.

Everybody, together:

"...from the mountains, to the prairies...
to the oceans...

Maybe the Russians should help out in Afghanistan, since they spent so many years trying to "invade" and destroy the country. I was thinking today that maybe Saddam should have exiled to Cuba or North Korea, or maybe even Russia. He would have fit right in!! Could you imagine the dynamic duo of Fidel and Saddam, at odds together with the US and oh so close! I could see Saddam smoking a fat "cuban" on the beach with Fidel at his side!! Oh, the possibilities!!
