Republican Political Lesson One:
When you have really f**ked up by the numbers, make sure you have a great PR campaign and can shift the blame to someone else.
From the NYT Published: September 5, 2005
"WASHINGTON, Sept. 4 - Under the command of President Bush's two senior political advisers, the White House rolled out a plan this weekend to contain the political damage from the administration's response to Hurricane Katrina"
"In a reflection of what has long been a hallmark of Mr. Rove's tough political style, the administration is also working to shift the blame away from the White House and toward officials of New Orleans and Louisiana who, as it happens, are Democrats"

People are still stranded without food or water, and they are worried about containing political damage? This administration just went a long way on proving their cluelessness on how to run a country or deal with a crisis. What an utter, sick joke the Bush administration has become. People are dying and they are concerned about political damage. Well, here's a newsflash...the damage is done. There is no spin in the world that can forgive lack of water or food for nearly a week. There is no spin that can bring dead babies back to life. Babies, yes babies died due to the lack of response by the federal government. Bush is a joke and there is no spin doctor on the planet that can overcome that fact.

But really folks what the hell would you expect from an administration that says it made no mistakes in Iraq?????? Rather than except responsibility just shift the blame Rove.

QUOTE
In interviews, these Republicans said that the normally nimble White House political operation had fallen short in part because the president and his aides were scattered outside Washington on vacation, leaving no one obviously in charge at a time of great disruption. Mr. Rove and Mr. Bush were in Texas, while Vice President Dick Cheney was at his Wyoming ranch.
Ms. Rice did not return to Washington until Thursday, after she was spotted at a Broadway show and shopping for shoes, an image that Republicans said buttressed the notion of a White House unconcerned with tragedy.
Hmmm, President on vacation right before a disaster. Sounds familiar.

THAT is my main concern with the way this administration handled the problem. If you were President and you went to bed and there was a storm in the gulf at a CAT 2 and you woke up and it was a CAT 5 what would you do? (Then again if you never read the paper and the rest of your staff is around the world on their month long vacation and aren't able to tell you what to do...)I would end my month long vacation at the ranch and fly back to Washington to prepare the coastal region that was going to get hit . I would have activated the military to the most populated areas (ie New Orleans) to assist with evacuations. Hell, I have 48 hours to move "heaven and earth", we have invaded countries in that amount of time. Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
But as was earlier mentioned...this administration has ALWAYS mismanaged and cast blame elsewhere instead of looking from within. Why would that behavior change now...
"W" will go down as the worst President of the modern age. Just when I thought things couldn't get much worst for him - they have.
Can't wait to see his new poll numbers...

But, as we have asked before on these pages, do we have any Democratic leadership that aren't political pussies, that are willing to step up and lead? As much as I wish otherwise, I don't see any.
Hang on, the REAL storm is about to hit: once Rove and the Christian Right get going, once the spin achieves high velocity, and as soon as the smearing can get into gear...
One Christian group has already claimed that the storm was God's judgement on gays (all those elderly gays dying in hospitals, all those gay babies, all those gay households, gay poor, blacks... ).
Never-dies are already babbling: "Bush didn't cause the storm... " "Playing politics..." "In times like these, we need to stand behind the president... "
Smearing has already begun on the state governments...
When did the buck stop stopping with the man we hired to serve and protect our country? When did the president become The Man Who Is Never Wrong? When did honor die?
But most important, will Americans remember?
Or will we invade someplace see, once criticism of irresponsibility and ineptitude becomes too widespread?

America is not going to forget, believe me. People are angry and have every right to be. Between this, gas prices, and the economy, I see a Republican speed train heading for a crash. It cannot come soon enough.

Just to add a little jade to the bitter...
" What an utter, sick joke the Bush administration has become "
The Bush administration has always been an utter, sick joke. From the rigged elections to the corporate handouts to the Military Industrial Complex and Oil companies. We have companies like Haliburton that do both cuz they have a special formula of crude, 3 parts raw petroleum to 1 part blood. This joke began long before "W".
Damn those nylon American flags are not much good for blotting up a mess. They just do not absorb enough to cover our tracks. They are too transparent to hide behind. You could probably use one to tie off your arm and shoot up some Uncle Smack brand heroin. The hope dope that is endorsed by God and country. God bless America. We must really stop those terrorists soon because we are getting spread a little thin. We are running out of fresh veins to spike.

I think MiMatt and all the others can even recognize a dropped ball when they see one. Perhaps that's why they've been so silent on this huge, huge debacle of the Bush administration. You know, a few days ago, the Rethuglicans were still blaming Clinton. Be kind to them though. It must be terribly depressing to have your false leader let you down.
