I really don't mean to be flip about this, but what is up with Bush? He has all the markings to me of a man who's lost all touch with reality. Unfortunately, I didn't see the whole news conference last night, only clips, and he looked awful and really out of it. Anyone think he's really lost it? Thoughts?

A sedative with meals, and a few drinks before all television appearances?

Rock stars, when losing their stamina for the stage, take drugs. Why should GWB, who was never really qualified to run a nation (Clinton read presidential biography on every U.S. president as part of his preparation regimen - not to mention speaking personally to every kind of American possible as a candidate in order to get the people's opinions), be any different?

Of course, I don't KNOW that he puts humself under the influence. Nevertheless, if he did, he wouldn't be the first.

His dad was president, and if lineage is any qualification (it worked for John Quincy Adams, who of course had also represented the US in Europe as a young man and spoke six languages; and Benjamin Harrison, who was a noted trial lawyer and eletced official; and Franklin Roosevelt, who'd been secretary of the Navy and governor of New York), W. surely meets it.

Really, I've thought since Reagan that 1) anyone is qualified to be governor, and 2) anyone is qualified to be president--that is, if you're not in a mental institution. Short of that, the American people have shown again and again that we really will elect almost anyone--well, not a woman, nor a Jewish person (this will happen sooner rather than later), nor a Black or Latino or Asian, nor an Arab, nor a Muslim--but if you're a European-descended Christian male (or some semblance thereof), even if you're as stupid as Millard Fillmore or notoriously crooked and underskilled as Warren Harding, man, the job is yours. And if you're a war hero like William Henry Harrison, well, so much the better!

Hence, "The Xanax Cowboy": http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/09/opinion/.../09DOWD.html?th

"You might sum up the president's call to war Thursday night as 'Message: I scare.'"

And this is the same drone that, according to the defector, is going to spread those chemicals, right?

We should just bomb the drone (or drones) to smithereens, since we now know where they are, and be done with it.

Anything else, do the same. No need to send troops into the hellish sands and open oil pits Saddam is concocting to defend his country.

BTW, Palestinians in Jordan, according to a NY Times Magazine , were debating whether or not to become suicide bombers against the U.S. troops. We also need to factor this bit in; no one has talked about very much, but Iraqis, Arabs, and other Muslims could easily decide that if their ultimate goal is Paradise, why not take out as many of the U.S. and British soldiers as possible....

Well i thought eveyone wanted the "smoking gun"??? ummm, so now that they found illegal missles and drone planes that were supposed to be report, just blow them up? No biggy, thats not material...

Sadaaaaaam could turn up fiddy pounds of anthrax, and you'd just say, well... destroy it...

According to UN resolutions, that drone plane represents a material breech.
NoLongerHere
This is an excerpt of a message I sent to friends several weeks to a month ago...it thus does not include some of his most recent crazy-ass antics (like his new $300 million campaign to promote marriage as a solution to welfare)...

I can't believe how quickly and comprehensively President Bush has been in advancing his arch-conservative agenda. It's clear that while President Bush is preparing to send us to war, he's also doing everything he can to destroy civil rights and social justice gains. The proof:

AIDS
http://www.naral.org/mediaresources/press/...03_thacker.html
"George Bush has selected a man who believes AIDS is a 'gay plague' to advise him on AIDS policy and a man who believes birth control is a sin to advise him on contraceptive technology," Michelman said. "Sadly, these appointments make clear that this Administration is more interested in promoting a narrow ideological agenda than it is in promoting sound science."

Remember the Japanese Internment Camps? Never thought that could happen again...?

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
http://endabuse.org/newsflash/index.php3?S...NewsFlashID=359
Ashcroft appoints a woman who has spoken out against the Violence Against Women Act and related programs to the National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women

WOMEN'S HEALTH
http://womenshealthnetwork.org/hager.htm and http://womenshealthnetwork.org/urgentfda.htm
"Dr. W. David Hager is a practicing obstetrician-gynecologist, and sources told Time magazine that in his private practice he will not prescribe contraceptives to unmarried women. He is also the author of a book which suggests that women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome should seek help from reading the bible and praying." Bush SUCCESSFULLY gets this jerk appointed to The Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee of the FDA.

GAY & LESBIAN ISSUES
http://www.sldn.org/templates/action/recor...html?record=707 and http://www.sldn.org/templates/press/record...on=2&record=612
"Barry Winchell was murdered in 1999 at Fort Campbell, Ky., by fellow soldiers who believed he was gay. MG Clark, then-commanding general of the base, failed to curb anti-gay harassment among his troops, to train Fort Campbell soldiers on the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, and launched an illegal investigation into Winchell's sexual orientation while ignoring threats to Winchell's safety." Bush has nominated this jerk for appointment to the Army's second highest ranking position.

LEGAL ISSUES for WOMEN & MINORITIES
http://www.capwiz.com/now/issues/alert/?al...1328176&type=CO
"Estrada has been opposed by the National Organization for Women and many other organizations, including the Feminist Majority, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus, the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, People for the American Way, the AFL-CIO, Planned Parenthood, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, Earthjustice, the National Women's Law Center, the NAACP, the Sierra Club and AAUW."

TITLE IX
http://www.now.org/press/01-03/01-31.html
"In the best Orwellian tradition, the Bush Administration is trying to convince us that left is right, up is down, war is peace and that its so-called Commission on Opportunity in Athletics actually cares about women's equal participation in sports," said National Organization for Women (NOW) Membership Vice President Terry O'Neill. "George W. Bush has mounted a double-barreled assault on Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the law that requires federally funded schools and colleges to provide equal educational opportunities to girls and women. The recommendations adopted on January 30 by the group appointed to 'review' Title IX were not moderate, as some news reports suggested—they were an outright attack on Title IX."

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2003-0...tion-case_x.htm
Yeah, that's right, George Bush is attacking affirmative action. Riiiight. The guy who didn't have the grades but did have the name and the $$$ to get into Yale and into grad school at Harvard...right, THAT guy is attacking affirmative action

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
http://truthout.com/docs_02/020203E.6.gop.anwr.htm
Leaving literally no stone unturned, Bush attacks the environment, too...

“It’s incredible,” a senior diplomat from a swing voter on the council said. “This report is going to have a clearly defined impact on the people who are wavering. It’s a biggie.”

An explicit report by Dr Blix of the discovery of an Iraqi violation would help the six swing voters — Angola, Cameroon, Chile, Guinea, Mexico and Pakistan — to explain a change of position to their publics.
<<

Just curious: from which of those six countries would there be a senior diplomat likely to use the phrase, "it's a biggie?"

The article is also found, via a link from Alex Jones's website http://www.prisonplanet.com/ .
Herr Tiggee
As days pass, and I read more an more of the news from his administration (thanks for all the great links, BTW), I see Dubya morphing into Pat Robertson.

And the image of Pat Robertson in the White House has been one of the scariest concepts I have ever imagined. Yet here, through deeds alone, the net effect has been realized.

Beware that man that controls a nation and believes he speaks for God.

Well, let's see. Angola speaks Portuguese. Would they say "de biggie"? Cameroon and Guinea speak French, would they say "le biggie"? Chile and Mexico speak Spanish, would they say "el biggie"? And let's not even get into Pakistan. Methinks I smell the exaggerations of a Bushie or an Englishman.

Have you seen that Brit comedy series called "League of Gentlemen"? There's one episode in which this paranoid guy is venting to his buddies at the local pub about his personal problems when suddenly he pulls out this pistol and starts waving it around yelling " I gut this goon! I gut this goon " like he's about to eviscerate some hideous smelling waterfowl.

Each time they calm him down some innocent incident sets him off again, until he ends up faking a suicide in the bathroom.

The whole thing is funny as hell.

Sometimes I think we're being ruled by a loon with his finger on a "nucler" trigger.

And it aint the least bit funny.
