Two investigative efforts into the identity of Deep Throat are in the process of coming to light. John Dean has backed off his promise of revealing a name and is now promising a "thimbleful" of possibilities. While a university journalism class in Illinois has narrowed down the field to seven possibilities. The students, when asked for a guess, think the culprit was Patrick Buchannan. David Gergen is also on their list, as well as others I cannot remember off the top of my head.
However, I think Buchannan is an unlikely choice. He is about the same age as Woodward and Bernstein. Yet they have said they would reveal deep throat's identity upon his death. To me that sounds like they expect to outlive deep throat. Just my two cents in an a conversation that isn't going to end till someone dies.
