Report by the E.P.A. Leaves Out Data on Climate Change
By ANDREW C. REVKIN with KATHARINE Q. SEELYE

The Environmental Protection Agency is preparing to publish a draft report next week on the state of the environment, but after editing by the White House, a long section describing risks from rising global temperatures has been whittled to a few noncommittal paragraphs.
....

The editing eliminated references to many studies concluding that warming is at least partly caused by rising concentrations of smokestack and tail-pipe emissions and could threaten health and ecosystems.
....

In its place, administration officials added a reference to a new study, partly financed by the American Petroleum Institute, questioning that conclusion.
....

We in the US have shown a pattern of ignoring facts about the state of our environment and the responsibility to take care of it so that it will take care of us.

But the increased tendency by this administration to selectively present facts is IMO exceptional.

I'm reminded here of the decision to edit the descriptions of nature reserves in a recent display in a federal building so that they did not overemphasize the beauty of the reserves. frown

Christy Whitman actually issued a special memo that details the battle over this. In point of fact she went along with this nonsense so that the ENTIRE REPORT would not be canceled.

If anyone is still in doubt about global warming, I'd say go to Mario Molina's site at MIT. Institute Professor at MIT, he is an atmospheric chemist who won the Nobel Prize a few years ago.

I wish people would read up on this, global warming means erratic weather, not just that it is going to keep getting hotter.
