Hi,

I'm a newcomer here and I'm a football fan. I'm "Giants75".

I joined this board in the hopes of talking with others who can share their feelings about football, especially the players (past and present), and anything that comes with it.

I just finished reading the article about Dave Kopay here on the front page and thought it was interesting. A lot of what he says I can identify with. His book seems interesting. Is there any place on the web where there are pictures of him in his playing days or during the 70's??

I am 27, and a big football fan. The N.Y. Giants are my favorite team. I am also interested in the history of the NFL, and also enjoy to read about the players of old. Many former players from various teams I have developed crushes on (particularly from the 60's/70's/80's). I feel as if the players these days are void of any pure masculinity. Even if some of them are quite handsome and great to look at, too many of them come off as "pretty boys". Surely there's got to be a man somewhere inside of them.

I'm very disappointed in the lack of any gay NFL-football groups and message boards. Years back, I remember when Yahoo had some gay football clubs but when they merged with the groups, I was never able to find them again.

I hope this board will be of some good use for me.

Welcome aboard!
I'm a Giants fan from NJ too. I've been a fan since 86 when I first started like sports.

I wish we could get more offense on our team, but overall of course I'm still a fan.

I'm not a Giants fan per se but follow them only because I sometimes get the Times home-delivered.

Here's a nice photo of David Kopay.

I think he is a member here on Outsports Discussion Board though he said he was having trouble getting acquirng computer skills. There was also a mention of him doing a sort of Q & A.

Don't know how that's going. Anybody?

Oh, and welcome aboard. Glad I'm not the only one who prefers the earlier masculine look.

Cyd and I started the gay football club but closed it when we created Outsports. Plus, those clubs get overrun with spam and are hard to manage.

Welcome! You'll find a lot of football fans here. Start playing the pick-em game done by George.

Josh--

I also started following the N.Y. Giants in '86 also. I'll never forget it because I was in the 6th grade and the school I went to everyone was a Giant fan there. I was only mildly interested in it (football) beforehand. I do remember watching the 1986 Super Bowl with Chicago and New England, but it was by the '86 season that I started following them (the Giants).

The Giants are having problems as of late but I'm optimistic they'll get some of their acts together. Hope they used their bye week to good use. They really need help on converting on third downs, though. That's one of their weakest areas. I'm always hearing that their offense is lackluster but the players are young and need time to mature. The Giants have always specialized in youth, which is a good thing, and time will only make them more solid as a unit.

Nice hearing from you, Josh.

Welcome Giants75, I think you will enjoy this site! I am going to Philly Monday to see my 1st NFL game! I am very excited, not sure who I will be routing for as I am a Viking fan, but know being from South Jersey it isn't smart to rout against the Philly team! However... I have Barber and Toomer in my fantasy league, as well as McNabb. So i may be cheering a lot of players!

Giants75,
Cool. I was in the 4th grade when the Giants won the super bowl in 86. It was quite a ride that year with the Mets winning the WS and then the Giants in the SB.

where in NJ are you? Do you get to go to a lot of games? Personally, I haven't been to a giants regular season game in about 6 years. it's so tough to get tickets.

Monday nite's game is huge. I can't stand the Eagles, and kicking their ass to get back into a tie for first would be great! I'm hoping the eagles have a let down against the game with the Bucs.

Question for Giants fans: what do you think the future holds for Ron Dayne?

He hasn't been used that much this year -- although I've read those times have been effective -- and he is resigned to the fact this limited role will continue as long as he's a Giant.

You keep thinking that, Josh. You keep thinking that. (pats Josh on head condescendingly)

Josh--

I live in Northern New Jersey, and I went to my very first Giants game two months ago. It was a preseason game against the Ravens.

Just being there with all of the fans was an experience. When I was going up the ramps to go to the level section, the first glimpse I saw of the field I rushed over to a narrow entry way to see it. There were some people there trying to get a look also. It was just awesome!!

I remember the 1986 season so well, and yes, I do remember the Mets World Series win!! I am a Mets fan as well, and I still have the "rally" sheet I used with star stickers and the names of all the players from the '86 team. I used that for good luck. What a great year for N.Y. sports!!
