I imagine you have some mixed reactions about heading over there, AZAF, despite your obvious loyalty and dedication to your job/country....at least it's only for 100 days, though (hopefully it won't turn out to be much longer - for your sake).
Be glad to send you some e-mails keeping you up to date on happenings in the sports world back here....still look forward to seeing some posts from you in the future, of course.
Be sure to return home safely though because Outsports wouldn't be the same without ya -- your insightful comments and contributions to this board are always appreciated.

azairforce,
Sorry if this sounds simple, or silly, But THANK YOU.
Thank for your stepping forward to protect all of us. You have my respect, and will be in my prayers.
I will be happy to email you, and if there is any thing you need while over there, let me know.
Take care

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and all of our men and women serving our country over there, big guy!! I am veteran as well and I know exactly the mixed feelings that you may be going through. Like an earlier posted stated though, we are a better country with soldiers like you serving to protect our country's welfare. We will miss you, but we will stay in contact with you as much as possible!! May God Bless you! Let us know if we can mail you any care packages or anything or that nature!! I already have friends in Iraq and let me know if I can do the same for you.

Az -- stay safe and know that we will be thinking of you. Just think how much can change on the Board during those 100 days -- MIB and Razor may start dating, William and PhillyFan may become Howard Dean supporters... Seriously, thanks for sharing your news.

AZAF, you take care of yourself and stay safe, ok? We'll make sure to keep you updated on the boards. I don't know if you are a Arizona fan, but maybe when you return there will be a buzz in Tucson about the Cardinals (yeah, right) and the Wildcats (but not for football because when you return, won't it be basketball season?). Take care.

Fair winds, clear skies and grateful thanks from a fellow veteran! As my grandfather, a WWI vet - but from the old Austro-Hungarian army - told my cousins and me when we went into the service: "Keep close to the generals!" We all came back and you will too!

If Azairforce is near Bagram Air Base, he may at least be able to get a good cup of coffee.
Makeshift Starbucks Brings Taste of Home to Troops QUOTE
By Thomas E. Ricks and Liz Spayd
Washington Post Staff Writers
Saturday, January 24, 2004; Page A13
BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan -- It may come as some surprise to executives in Seattle, but the most remote Starbucks in the world is up and running at this dusty U.S. military outpost, serving up steaming lattes and grasshopper mochas just a few steps from a runway alive with Black Hawk helicopters and Warthog attack jets.
Despite the thick white cardboard cups and distinctive green logo pinned to the wall, this is not a real, corporate-run Starbucks. Rather, it is an ersatz branch created by troops from the California National Guard thirsty for a taste of home.
....
The soldiers' rogue outpost of caffeine culture, tucked just south of the forbidding snowcapped Hindu Kush mountains, was the brainchild of Scott Matthews, a member of the California Guard.
....
Clearly, Matthews has the entrepreneurial bug. Next he would like to bring Krispy Kreme Doughnuts to Afghanistan. The problem that worries him, he says, is how to keep the things fresh. \"They die so fast -- it's like they're alive.\"
Edited to correct name of the facility from my version, "Bagram AFB" (552 hits in Google) to the correct title, "Bagram Air Base" (18,400 hits in Google). The
Post had it right all along.
