Full Version: As an Eagle, Duce's days may be Dunn

Joe in Philly
This suddenly popped up in the last day or two. The Eagles are showing interest in free agent Warrick Dunn, and if they sign him they'll try and trade Duce Staley. If he's still with the team on Friday, he gets $500,000.00 so they'd otherwise release him.

Dunn has a few conditions for a deal

I don't see this as much of an upgrade, especially since Dunn wants a lot of carries and the Eagles haven't done that with any of their running backs in the last 10 years or so running the West Coast offense. Ricky Watters always complained about not getting the ball enough when he was here.

I remember seeing Ricky Watters at 30th street station (would have asked to have a picture taken with him but chickened out). This city tends to chew up a certain superstars and spit them out.

Probably a number of different factors are involved but Randy Cunningham comes to mind as an example. As they say in Sou' Philly "Wha'd up wi' dat?"

Cunningham and Watters both had circumstances of their own which complicated their times here, such as "Let me be me" and "For who? For what?" Duce has none of that. I don't think anyone's chewing up and spitting out Duce Staley other than the Eagles. He's a hard worker and popular with the fans and his teammates, but as a running back he's just not a superstar. (I'm not sure Dunn is now, either, especially if he doesn't get the 20 carries per game that he wants. Seems to me that if they want to replace Duce and don't think Buckhalter is the answer, perhaps the Eagles should've made a play for Ricky Williams.)
