Dems have a new cartoon on their website.

Dems Cartoon Shows Bush Killing Old Woman

Here's the actual cartoon. Not quite The Simpsons, I think you'll agree.

Some observations:

1. I'm all about go-for-the-jugular, do-anything-to-win, etc., as long as the tactics don't actually hurt your cause. This, I believe, will hurt the Democrats. Criticizing Bush on Social Security is one thing. Perfectly legit. Making the word "privatization" an issue is equally valid. Great tactic. Depicting a reasonably popular President killing people, all in an effort to score political points, is not a good move. Your base will love it. Independents, undecideds, etc. will find it crass and tasteless. Plus, Dems are so desperate to push domestic issues to the top of the agenda. What they've done though, literally, is just make a caricature of the whole Social Security issue. That's my take.

2. Isn't it offensive to bring out the old stereotype of an old woman in a wheelchair? Most seniors lead active, fulfilling lives these days. Way insensitive.

William, once again, I must thank you! I didn't know the Dems had it in them. That animated ad made me chortle. Now the Republicans need to come up with one that shows Daschle morphing into Saddam Hussein...if they already haven't.

An especially nice touch was the imitation of Bush's voice at the end, as he runs back and forth madly with that wheelchair. The DNC should, however, insert him saying "Iraq" and "m'dad" and "weapons 'a mass dis-truction," though, to make it a little more accurate.

William - If you think this is going to hurt the Democrats you are really grasping at straws, getting worried?
