For those of you who may not know, leading arch-conservative Newspaper The washington Times (home of many many on-air experts/analysts at FoxNews), is owned by The Rev. Sung-Myung Moon and his Unification Church (aka "The Moonies")

Via his highly placed connections and some lies-by-omission, Moon managed to hold his "declaration of self as Jesus Christ" ceremony (complete with coronation with huge solid gold crown) in the Dirksen Senate Building.

This is an Outrage! What's next? Will The Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh hold a conference in the Hart? Will Hari Krishnas hold a lovefest in the Russell Building?

from the Wash Post...

Warner 'Deceived' on Rev. Moon Event
Aide Says Senator's Office Would Not Have Sanctioned Gathering at Dirksen Building
By Spencer S. Hsu
Washington Post Staff Writer

Sen. John W. Warner (R-Va.) accepts \"full responsibility\" for arranging the use of a Senate office building for a March ceremony in which the Rev. Sun Myung Moon declared himself the Messiah, a spokesman for the senator says.

But the Senate Armed Services Committee chairman released letters this week that show that organizers \"deceived\" Warner's office, spokesman John Ullyot said Thursday. He said the office would not have helped arrange the event \"had its true nature been disclosed.\"

Warner, 77, did not attend the March 23 event, and he did not realize it would involve Moon, Ullyot said. At the event, the Korean-born businessman and religious leader said his teachings helped Hitler and Stalin be \"reborn as new persons.\"

...Although the Senate Rules and Administration Committee would not reveal which senator sponsored Moon's use of a room in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Warner's office acknowledged its role Tuesday to The Washington Post and released a March 11 letter to the senator from a group called Christian Voice requesting a room.

But Warner's office said Thursday that it had found two earlier letters requesting space for the same event. The Jan. 7 and Feb. 17 letters, both under the letterhead of the Washington Times Foundation, were signed by the foundation's government liaison, Gary L. Jarmin, who is also president of Christian Voice. Moon's organization owns the Washington Times

Both letters billed the event as the foundation's annual awards banquet to honor individuals for \"exemplary service in conflict resolution and/or promoting interfaith tolerance and cooperation both here in the U.S. and in the Middle East\" between Israelis and Palestinians.

\"Nothing in the letters suggest that this would be a Unification Church event or that it would involve Reverend Moon in any way personally, and certainly not in a bizarre, quasi-coronation ceremony using inflammatory rhetoric,\" Ullyot said in an interview yesterday.

Although Warner believes that aides acted appropriately given the information provided, Ullyot said, the event clearly turned out to be \"inconsistent with Senate traditions,\" and Warner \"would not have forwarded a request for this event . . . had its true nature been disclosed.\"
ahhh yes! The objective nature of the Wash Times and the power behind its editorial policies come to light.

"The washington Times is directly owned and controlled by The Messiah! How can it ever be wrong?" The rest of the news world must declare. Right?

Just out of curiosity... Now that the Head Moonie has declared himself The Messiah in a Senate Office Building in the most important city in the world... and WBush says that "Jesus speaks through him"... does that mean that The head moonie is speaking through WBush?

By the way.. for those of you who are very religious and are acquainted with all the "Left Behind" novels and movies with their accompanying apocalypse scenarios... The crowning of a "Messiah" in Wash DC has very very strong overtones. But that's a whole nuther can of worms.

Wasn't there already a thread on this topic? I seem to recall it. Democratic Rep. Danny Davis was photographed carrying Moon's crown! But hey, why not? We've got people in the White House and on this board who want a theocracy instead of a democracy in the US, so why not have Moon instead of extremist christian fanatics or the Taliban?* NOT!

---
*BTW, under any of these three regimes, homosexuals would all be put to death or tortured, since Moon, the christian wackos and the Taliban have all gone on record with their expressed hatred of gays and lesbians.

Tomas,

You seem to be making a distinction between christian wackos and the moonies. The truth of the matter is that the moonies consider themselves to be christians. After all... if the leader of the movement, Rev.Moon, is the second coming of the Christ (Just look at his crown!), then how can they be anything but christian.

I know there was a previous discussion about the ceremony and the democratic members of congress who attended. But it was just disclosed 2 days ago how the moonies managed to gain approval.

Given their political leanings and their contacts, it's not surprising at all that the moonies (via The Washington Times and FoxNews) would corral republican support for their ends. Most of their contacts are with the GOP side of the aisle. The moonies have no love for the liberals.

Riyadh must disavow Al-Qaeda sympathizers. and likewise, it's time that the GOP toss aside and recogize The Washington Times and the Moonies for what they are and disassociate from the wackos. Unless.... Moon really is the Messiah. Then... I guess I'm in trouble eek!

Oh please, would somebody find and post a link to a picture of the new Messiah's crown? eek!

The Messiah Crowns are quite nice! Festive and yet.. not too ostentatious! wink

As much as FoxNews and The Wash Times loves to trumpet anything running counter to "America as Leave It To Beaver-ville", I wonder why they have not reported this?

Is this yet another "smear campaign by the liberal media"? and where are the Wash Times and FoxNews defenders (you know who you are) of this board? Why have they not piped up with yet another "you guys aren't true patriots!" comment?

I know we're sort of taking this as one big joke.
But to me, this is really very alarming. The Unification Church, The Moonies, are a brain washing organization who focus on raising money via it's network. Money that is all funneled to the direct control of Moon. With his money and his contacts he has enormous influence as demonstrated by the recent ceremony.

The Moonies are a CULT! and many politicians and Foxnews are sleeping with a cult leader who thinks he's the messiah.

Yeah, they've been around since the '70s and haven't changed anything except their PR. A high school classmate of mine went to one of their camps and got sucked into the whole scene until her family pulled her out (and then she gave a vaguely ominous warning about them in her commencement speech). They were quite active under various pseudonyms on college campuses (at least the public ones, which had to allow them for First Amendment reasons) in the late '70s and for a while after. Since buying the Times, they've focused most of their energies on DC, currying favor with the Religous Right while quietly promoting South Korean political interests (particularly those of past juntas and their supporters) in the States.

Many fundamentalists and evangelicals have denounced Moon's church, but only on doctrinal grounds (the Messiah thing isn't new at all, just the ceremony and crown) and almost exclusively in their own media (like Christianity Today and "Christian" cable channels), not to the general public. And the Falwell/Robertson crowd conveniently overlooks the Moonie roots of the WashTimes whenever an "alternative voice to counter the godless liberal media" is needed. It's like the way they speak out of both sides of their mouths about Mormons (condemning their doctine but counting them as allies on social issues) ... except, of course, that the Deseret News isn't in DC.

Somebody needs to tell The Rev. Sung-Myung Moon that declaring oneself The Messiah is reserved for the sole use of George W Bush to use when desperately needed to win an election. smile.gif

I think he prefers the term
His Chimperial Majesty.

no no. WBush never claimed to be the messiah. He simply stated that Jesus speaks directly to him. (since W is God's chosen rep on earth) anyway, Moon is the messiah and W is his emissary who converses with him.

Couldn't be too difficult as God is just down the street from the White House. and I'm sure W can always get the direct line to "The Messiah" at either the Wash Times offices or his cell phone. rolleyes.gif
