The President made a stop here in St. Louis yesterday to talk to a group of employees at one of the local Boeing facilities here. (Boeing has several locations that make strike fighters, missiles, and bombs.)

The President called for a quick end to the UN resolutions that outline the economic sanctions put in place after the Gulf War. The US wrote these resolutions and was the primary determiner of the conditions required for ending the resolutions.

Not surprisingly, most of those conditions have not been met. UN inspectors must be allowed back into the country to verify several things, including the absence of the WMD the White House insists will be found. The WH is not interested in letting the inspectors back in, so this will not occur anytime soon.

However, the UN controls the flow of oil as long as the resolutions are in place. Without those resolutions being vacated, the US cannot open up the production schedule in the oil fields and start shipping oil in greater volumes.

So, what exactly were we liberating? The Iraqi people? Or their precious natural resource that may help our economic conditions brighten a touch? Hmmm?
