Okay, I don't think anyone's posted on this yet, so...

Debate on Gun Rights In House Turns Racial

QUOTE
Yesterday's debate suddenly veered from guns to race when Rep. Barbara Cubin criticized a failed Democratic amendment that would have banned gun sales to drug addicts or people in drug treatment. After noting that her sons, ages 25 and 30, \"are blond-haired and blue-eyed,\" she said: \"One amendment today said we could not sell guns to anybody under drug treatment. So does that mean that if you go into a black community you can't sell any guns to any black person?\"
I don't think this wouldn't be such a big deal if it was just the opinion of one loony Congresswoman (see Cynthia McKinney). Many Democrats and a few Republicans called for Cubin to withdraw the remarks and apologize. But not only did Cubin refuse, but the House, along strict party lines, voted not to have her remarks "taken down" as offensive.

Personally, I'm surprised this isn't getting more attention. And it further shows how ridiculous the GOP's claim of being "inclusive" really is.

So based on Moran's (d-va) statements, all Democrats hate jews? One party is anti-jew and one is anti-black?

Well, this really isn't the entire Republican Party, just another stupid crackpot who's venting her racial fanaticism and ignorance.

In fact, the majority--here we go again--of people in DRUG TREATMENT are WHITE. George W. Bush's niece, who I gather is Euro-Latina, is in DRUG TREATMENT. I certainly would not want her being able to purchase a gun.

Also, drug use is seriously ON THE RISE among white young people, particularly in suburbs, and especially in the west and midwest, where methamphetamine manufacture and sales are up. Heroin use has surged among white young people. Also, the majority of abusers of OxyContin (and oxycodone/hydrocodone, etc.) are white, and the crimes associated with this drug have taken place mostly in rural, low-minority-population areas. Ecstasy blah blah blah....

But you can go to National Institute on Drug Abuse for more information on trends. The media are staying as far away from reporting on the drug situation as they can...too inconvenient for the kind of America they want to portray.

I agree that "all black people use drugs" isn't exactly part of the GOP's platform. And as I said, I wouldn't even think twice if it was the situation you described. But what bothers me is that she refused to apologize or clarify (if she misspoke), and that the GOP basically endorsed her opinion by voting to keep it on the record.
