Son of the former governor AND married to a Kennedy, and he still couldn't cut it...

The bloom has long been off the Kennedy dynasty rose (no pun intended). Wouldn't it be fitting if the next member of the extended Kennedy clan to win a major race is the GOPer, Arnold Schwartznegger (CA gov. candidate in 2006?)
Cuomo's out in NY
I think Kathleen Kennedy Townsend will lose the MD gov. race. (she already tarnished the family's record by becoming the first to lose an election several years back).
Even if Mark Shriver wins the Dem. primary next week in the MD 8th district (the race is neck-and-neck) -- he'll probably lose to the incumbent Connie Morella.
And Patrick -- displaying at times the worse sort of poster-boy behavior one might expect from a Kennedy -- has the GOP gunning for him, but will languish in his safe RI seat.

How did all these Kennedys/Shrivers end up in Maryland, anyway?
I'll always remember Pat Kennedy from when he was pushing for a gun control bill, and one Republican said "don't tell me I can't give my wife who's alone in Upstate NY a gun to protect herself" (so many things wrong with that, first of all) and then basically told Pat that he didn't know what he was talking about.
Kennedy responded, on the verge of tears (or so it seemed), "And don't you tell me that I and my family don't know the effects of gun violence."
Good comeback, if you ask me.

Cuometto was urged not to run, but he did it anyway. What really sank him, however, were his intemperate remarks, his weak personal record, his sometimes loco behavior, his casting about for issues, and his lack of gravitas. It also didn't help that his father was hardly that popular when he left office 8 years ago. He should try again down the road. He is a scrappy, colorful character if there ever was one.
H. Carl McCall has been an excellent fiscal administrator, but a TERRIBLE candidate. He is too timorous, too softspoken (to the point of being soporific), and often appears as though he ought to be GIVEN the job. Since New York *STATE* is about 18% African-American and 16-17% Latino, and since Democrats far outnumber Republicans in New York City, Westchester and Erie counties, it could be a close race. He really needs to pick up the pace, though.
What's sad is that George Pataki should be beatable. His main accomplishment has been to lower the state's tax rates, which is definitely important, but like Christie Whitman, he has done so through accounting tricks that are going to cost all New Yorkers, especially since the 9/11 catastrophes. Pataki, as a moderate Republican, has been able to win over many Democrats and keep most Republicans in his fold, especially since unlike Giuliani he doesn't have a history of serious racial or ethnic baggage, and probably will win again in November.

Cuomo has such an ego- apparently dropped out just so he wouldn't lose in the primary next week. He should never have opposed McCall in the first place. He has yrs to do it after McCall's run. It does show the strength of the Clintons in the background manipulations- what politicians they are! I hate em but they are BRILLIANT!....With McCall - I'd rather have a good fiscal administrator than a flashy campaigner. McCall would be a good governor.(IMHO)
