Dear Mr. Smith,
Thank you so much for that “gem” of an article you wrote for todays paper! I’ve been following your articles for quite a while, today, your latest Owens argument really has to “take the cake”
Before today, I had thought that Paola Bovin (Az Republic) was the biggest waste of space and time, until reading anything you have to say outside of basketball. I had thought that Paolo had no business filling space in a newspaper and had no qualifications or understanding of sports. This was all before you started writing and commenting on football. Congrats on making my number one idiot sports writer list (replacing paola). Maybe the two of you could meet for lunch and discuss your articles, which would amount to nothing.
You bring up and excellent point concerning aging players and they way they are treated by the Eagles front office and what they are willing to pay for their players. Quite often when watching the NFL the last years, I realized what superb pro-bowl caliber years Taylor, Vincent, Trotter, and Douglas were having after leaving the eagles and taking the big bucks in the free agent market. It was my understanding that Bobby Taylor did not even crack the starting line-up for the seahawks last year.
In your haste to write yet another illogical article you seem to have overlooked this small tidbit of information. Perhaps a job at “Newsweek” is inline for you?
Lost in your love fest for trying to persuade the public that TO deserves a new contract, you overlook the fact that this team took on him and his baggage, which directly translated into the type of contract he signed. Furthermore, the front office made the decision to allow a Quality player like Duce Staley to walk so they might improve their receivers and allow the young westbrook to flourish within the system. Valid signs that the organization is not just happy to win a few games and make money, but rather improve the team to win the ultimate prize.
Quite often the Philadelphia media has the reputation of being tough and bitter towards their reporting of the sports franchises, might I suggest you use this against the phillies organization? It is not very wise to try and hammer a team that has won their division for 4-5 consecutive years, reached the nfc championship 4 times, and appeared in one superbowl.
I very much look forward to reading your next waste of space, perhaps Paola can outdo you next week to reclaim number one idiot.
Hugs and Kisses,
PF
