I think we went over this a while back. CNN's long term (i.e. watching signifcant amount at a time) is nothing compared to Fox's. Why? Cause these shows like O'Reilly Factor are more entertainment than anything else. I know plenty of 'Liberals' who watch that show and others.
CNN is watched primarily to watch the actual news.
On a side note, there was an article in last week's Newsweek I believe about how these networks being 'created' to fit a certain audience (i.e. Fox's conservative base) and how it is a bad thing to do cause you end up hearing news that you want to hear, which isn't reality. I personally watch Fox probably just as much as I do CNN, just cause I know I can see what some of the die-hard conservatives like Sean Hannity and such are speaking of (although I usually can only watch so much until the shouting and bickering drive me nuts).
You also have to take into consideration that CNN has 2 cable news channels.......CNN and CNN Headline News.

...just to put things in perspective....Fox News' Neilsen rating of 1.3 means it has just about half the viewers as MTV's the Real World (2.5) and one-third that of WWF's Smackdown! (3.9) among cable programs.

So, if lots of people watch FOXNews, they're discerning viewers who have found the only font of truth in network news. However, if lots of people watch something you disapprove of, they're "mindless globs of mush." If viewership equals quality and accuracy, then that's what it means, regardless of how you feel about what's viewed. Conversely, if viewership indicates sheeplike qualities in the viewers, then FOXNews viewers are equally dupped. You can't have it both ways, as you're so fond of pointing out.

'Outfoxed' Attempts to Show FOX News' Bias
Monday, July 12, 2004
NEW YORK — A new documentary backed by liberal political groups aims to document that the FOX News Channel (search) is anything but "fair and balanced," despite the cable-news network's motto.
The film, "Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism," draws on clips compiled during weeks of round-the-clock taping of the network to demonstrate what the filmmakers believe is a pattern of right-wing bias and support for the Republican agenda.
"What we found is not that FOX is a conservative network, but that it's a network that follows the party line of the Bush administration," said "Outfoxed" (search) filmmaker Robert Greenwald, a Hollywood producer-director whose credits include the 2003 documentary "Uncovered: The Whole Truth About the Iraq War" and such TV films as "The Crooked E: The Unshredded Truth about Enron" and "Blonde," a biopic of Marilyn Monroe (search).
Greenwald said he decided to make the film after hearing numerous journalists refer to the "Foxification" of the news. That approach, he says, has served the 8-year-old FOX News Channel well, and "put pressure on many of the other networks to move in the same direction: cheap news, ranting and raving, pseudo-patriotism."
Greenwald's 75-minute film includes complaints from several FOX News staffers about the workplace climate at the outlet of the global Murdoch media empire. They say their bosses promote a conservative slant.
And the ever so classy Fox responds with cutting down the employees on their website that spoke in the movie and going after the New York Times.
"FOX News Channel Statement on 'Outfoxed'
Monday, July 12, 2004
Any news organization that thinks this story is legitimate is opening itself to having its copyrighted material taken out of context for partisan reasons. The illegal copyright infringement actions of Moveon.org in cooperation with the New York Times, including “cutting a deal” not to give FOX News Channel adequate time to react, is unprecedented. The New York Times corrupts the journalistic process by taking orders from a George Soros-funded web site – Soros is a left-wing billionaire currency speculator who funds many liberal efforts. This is the real story. If any news organizations decide to make this an anti-FOX News story, then all of their material becomes fodder immediately for possible out of context and biased documentaries.
The former low-level FOX employees are hardly worth addressing. Some of the “sources” for this documentary never worked for FOX News Channel (in another statement, Fox states that they worked for a local Fox News Channel, but not Fox News Channel, even though they feed stories to eachother). Some left because of incompetence, and none expressed concern about editorial policy while employees. They represent fewer than 10 employees out of 2,000 over 8 years. Any news organization that believes this story is big and FOX News Channel is a problem will be challenged by FOX News Channel in the following manner:
If they will put out 100 percent of their editorial directions and internal memos, FOX News Channel will publish 100 percent of our editorial directions and internal memos, and let the public decide who is fair. This includes any legitimate cable news network, broadcast network, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post."
