Got a call today from a representative of Tom Reynolds indicating that Senator Reynolds wanted to honor me with the National Leadership Award.

Umm, riiiiight...

I called back and politely explained that I reviewed grants for the Federal government last year and I was required to register myself as a "small business" in order to be paid.

Words words words from the guy on the phone, and eventually, "Can I play the Senator's message for you?"

"Uh, yeah, OK," I said.

Recorded message from the Senator about tax reform, advocating for small business owners, being invited to a black tie dinner with the President (!) words, words, words...

The Senator asks that I please stay on the line to speak with one of his representatives, and sure enough in seconds, a very assertive operator is encouraging me to accept the National Leadership Award, the invitation to the dinner, and even offers an autographed photo of the President.

Says me: "I work in higher education and the non-profit sector, this really isn't my area of expertise, so..."

Says Assertive Woman: "We're looking for expertise from all areas to support small business and to help get Republicans elected to Congress. All that's required is a $300 donation. Can I tell the Senator he has your support?"

I say: "Ummm, yeah, I think my name was on the wrong list, so..."

Our Lady of Assertion interrupts and offers that my name will be listed with other National Leadership Award winners in a full page ad in the Wall Street Journal (I think it was the WSJ, I was distracted by a mental imagine of my friends seeing my name listed in a full page ad paid for by the NRCC).

I say: "Sorry, this is not my area and it would be kind of inappropriate for me, really, so, I'm sorry, but I must decline"

She says: "blah blah...this call has been paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee blah blah" then she gave me the website.

No joke.
This JUST happened.
For real...

Has anyone else received a similar message or call?

Are the Democrats doing this? Or anything similar?

Pardon my ignorance, but who is "Senator" Tom Reynolds? I don't think I've ever heard of that Senator before. It sounds like a creepy GOP scam to me.

B Man, they ALL do it. Both parties (except in the world where FT lives, where Dems can and don't do anything wrong). Crooks.

As always, I'll ask you, do have any facts about your assertion, either about me or the Democrats doing this. Don't worry, I already know the answer. NO. (And don't go plagiarize someone to back it up, "judge.")

BTW, I know there are Democratic crooks. Marion Barry, William Jefferson, Richard Daley Sr., Richard Daley (Jr.), Henry Cisneros, Mike Espy, etc. etc. I won't go on, I'm sure everyone is quite familiar with all these people. Including Republican scandalmonger JACK ABRAMOFF!

One day, ONE frickin' day, you will wake up from this fantasy world where your Democratic buddies can do no wrong. Where have you been these last 150-200 years? Democrats AND Republicans have been mired in the sewer of corruption of Washington for decades.

It is truly baffling how totally ignorant and partisan you can be. Just baffling.

I'm not sure what you missed in my list of Democratic crooks, which you conveniently glossed over, but then maybe being outed for having plagiarized Pete duPont from the WSJ ed page has sent you off the deep end. Call me "ignorant" all you want, though. At least I'm not the one who's claimed to hold positions I don't.

Throwing around a few token names to try and take the blind bias out of your post doesn't work.

You still haven't proved this. I've asked for concrete PROOF--you know, the type you so sanctimoniously demand of anyone who dares to disagree with your Holiness. Enough with the accusations, assertions, and other crap. Provide proof or cease with these insane comments.

Okay, I've got to go make dinner, but seriously, "judge," you're becoming unhinged. I'm hardly anyone's "Holiness." I think you've got your robes in a knot because you were unmasked for plagiarizing duPont, whose right-wing positions you represented as if you'd wrote them. As I initially said, I realized something was up, but I didn't want to go there with you. Someone else did. It's not a pretty place, is it? sad.gif

I openly admit I'm politically liberal, with libertarian leanings. I've said it more than once. I don't claim to be anything else. Many people on here may disagree with my positions, and that's fine. Disagree. Fellow Democrats, Greens, you name it. You've even called me a socialist, which is going a bit far, though I have voted for a socialist candidate over a Democrat before. But in general, I'm in the left of that party, or close to the Greens in some cases. I don't always agree with the Democratic Party. There are crooked individuals in the party, but it currently is not engaged in widescale corruption like the Republicans under DeLay/Blunt/Hastert, etc. I often disagreed with Bill Clinton. He had corrupt people on his staff, like Cisneros, Espy and Brown. But I'll readily admit that I would vote for him and everyone in his administration in a heartbeat over the out-of-control liar, Warrantless Wiretapper, that's in office now. With the exception of William Jefferson, I'd take Democrats (the conservative ones, the liberal ones, the ones in-between) over Republicans (except Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins) right now in a heartbeat.

Now, what about what I've said do you not understand?
MIB
Enjoy your fixin's, Your Holiness.

Aw, now Fantomas, go easy on MIB. Remember how upset you became as a child when you discovered the Superheros weren't really real? Or when you found out Santa was actually your parents? MIB is going through the same thing right now, as the Republican party and all his "heros" crumble and fall right before his very eyes. MIB is having a tough day/week/month/year. A little pity for the losers, if you please.

How about more than a dozen eyewitnesses?
Would that count as "PROOF" in a federal court?
