Glad to hear the officer wasn't hurt. Whata moronic thing to do. Can't wait to hear how they will try and spin this one! He's being charged with a felony so jail time is a possibility.
Moss needs a change of scenery. It obviously isn't working in Minnesota. Just not sure how many other teams are willing to take the risk. He's going to go down as one of the biggest underachievers of all time. What a waste of talent.

According to the story on SportsCenter Tuesday night it was apparently quite a bit more serious than just "bumping" a police officer, which is why Moss has been charged with a felony....according to the police representative interviewed on ESPN he "pushed" the female police officer half a block with his vehicle forcing her to the ground until she called for emergency assistance.
The key question that remains is whether the Vikings brass of McCombs, Tice, et al will finally come to their senses and rid themselves of this cancer to the team (and the entire league, for that matter)....or at the very least suspend Moss without pay for a VERY LONG period of time....at the rate he's going maybe spending more time behind bars (again) is the only thing that will awaken Moss from his immature (and in this instance criminal) behavior.

Remember how when he got drafted he got all idignant about his being picked in the 20's (= less money) and how the teams that passed him up because of questions about his character and ability to stay out of trouble were idiots?
Oh how those teams are laughing now.
If he can avoid jail time (a big IF), he definitely needs to get out of Minnesota. It's all gone bad for him there and it would be sad to see such a great talent--no, he's the not the Greatest NFL Player Ever as Cyd insists, Cyd's been hitting the crack pipe again--go down the tubes due to personal issues.

Oh, great. Just what we need. Another bad-boy ex-NFL-er coming to the CFL. Um, thanks, but no thanks.

He won't do jail time. He's an active professional athlete. How often do they really serve time?

Trevor, do you remember former active NFL players named Rae Carruth, Mark Duper, and that former Rams defensive back (whose name escapes me) who is serving life for being a drug kingpin (while he was an ACTIVE player)....while I agree with your premise that active professional athletes definitely receive preferential treatment (and that's not even counting the retired ones like OJ ) and I seriously doubt Moss will serve jail time AGAIN (although he deserves to) there are certainly exceptions to the rule.

As is now being reported by ESPN.com (see link below), the charges against Moss have been reduced from a felony to two misdemeanors and Mike Tice says he will start Sunday night's game at Seattle as scheduled....looks like you were right again, Trevor....while his actions yesterday were admittedly not overwhelmingly "serious" (although the police did find marijuana in Moss' Lexus after it was impounded), taking into consideration ALL of his recent transgressions I think Moss should receive more than just a slap on the wrist....anyone care to wager how much more time elapses before Randy finds himself in trouble or on the police blotter again?
Even though Tice says he barely slept and "ate half a bottle of Maalox" Tuesday night he certainly should have responded more vigorously than by simply saying that Randy will apologize to his teammates tomorrow....I guess we know who REALLY controls the Vikings after all (as if the discrepency in the salaries of coach vs. "star" player didn't already answer that, huh?).
In addition, there is now an interesting poll and "dueling columnists" on ESPN.com as to whether Moss is worth keeping on the team or not....John Clayton says to keep him while Len Pasquarelli says to cut him loose....what's even more interesting is 64% OF THE 48,030 RESPONDENTS TO THE POLL SAY TO GET RID OF HIM (which I agree with btw)....see second link for columns and poll results.

Curt, awesome reply -- maybe you should have been Duper's defense attorney. ....to answer your question (which is detailed in the link below) Duper, who played for the Dolphins from 1982-92 was suspended by the NFL in 1988 for violation of its substance abuse policy, admitted to having a cocaine problem throughout the late 80s and 90s but he was ACQUITTED in 1995 on charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine due to the jury believing prosecutors entrapped him....I stand corrected -- I guess "Super Duper" is now a model citizen after all despite the high school in Jacksonville, Florida firing Duper as assistant coach in 2001 the day after a story appeared in the local paper detailing Mark's past problems.

Moss is a mess, but Minnesota would probably have let him go sooner (like the Rams and other teams did with Lawrence Phillips, another nutcase) had he not posted spectacular numbers over the last few seasons. He needs psychological help, and soon. Didn't he basically admit last season that he loafed some of the time? It's sad to say, but that time in jail--or a serious sanction of some sort--might have slapped some sense into him.

I think Randy moss is an idiot. He is only interested in Randy not his team. He gives football and the vikings a bad name. He will get off and get away with it just as they let all professional atheletes do. Remember all that darryl Strawberry was able to do and the amount of chances he received? I think it is outrageous what atheletes are able to do these days. How many of us would just like to be able to live on the interest that the money they make brings in? How many of us would not only be in jail but loose our jobs for what these players do? These players are supposed to be people that children look up to? I wouldn't call these atheletes role models and if they can't behave as such they should be banned from sports nomatter who they are...Tyson,Rodman, Strawberry etc. they are not role models. granted some of them are names from the past and I am glad of that lets hope professional sports starts to get a clue as society does when it deals with our miscues in life.

Vikes are the only team in a competition between 0-3 teams this weekend. Pats are in the only meet between 3-0's.
I think the two games are going to be equally interesting at this point in the season.
Are the vikes going to self-destruct? Will the pats finally come down to earth?
Great games!

I was in downtown MPLS heading to the Twins game when this all occured. Unfortunetly, I didn't get to witness any of it. But from what I've read in our papers and heard on the radio shows up here, it wasn't a cop that Randy bumped into, but a city employee directing traffic around a construction area. From what other people who had been there have said, the woman/city employee involved in the incident was causing a lot of problems for other motorists as well. What those problems were, I don't know. But a few people have come forward to say that they also had a confrontation with that particular city employee that day. While this doesn't excuse what Randy did, I do believe that the media has blown this way out of proportion. There are no felonies being filed, because there were no felonies committed. Even the amount of pot found on Randy was only a misdemeanor (a completely different issue, I know) I just wish that Randy would grow up and stop dropping what few passes Culpepper is able to throw downfield to him. Just my 2-cents.

He's now being charged for the marijuana found in the car. Moss, of course, tried to say it wasn't his and other people drive his cars. Never mind the fact that he's already in the leagues substance abuse program, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
From ESPN.com:
[quote] Minnesota Vikings star receiver Randy Moss was charged Tuesday with possession of a small amount of marijuana, adding to charges last week that he pushed a traffic officer with his car.
The new petty misdemeanor count carries a fine of up to $200, but it could also lead to a suspension or fine from the NFL.
Police said they found a marijuana cigarette in Moss' car after he was arrested on Sept. 24. Moss was driving in downtown Minneapolis when the traffic officer stepped in front of his car to stop him from making an illegal turn. She was slightly injured when she fell off the car.
Moss spent the night in jail and was charged the next day with careless driving and with failure to obey a traffic officer, both misdemeanors.
The complaint said the marijuana amounted to just under a gram. Moss has said the marijuana did not belong to him and that he had allowed other people to use his car recently.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Sunday that Moss was already in the league's substance abuse program for testing positive for marijuana last year, and underwent another test by the NFL after his arrest last week.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said it would review the case.
"Under the policy, a drug-related violation of the law is grounds for disciplinary action,'' Aiello said.
If Moss tests positive for a banned or illegal substance or is convicted on the possession charge, he could be subjected to fines and suspensions by the league. He was allowed to play in last Sunday's 48-23 loss at Seattle.
Moss' driving privileges in Minnesota were revoked for a year because he refused to take a police test for drug or alcohol use when he was arrested, said Kevin Smith, a spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. Moss has a Florida drivers license and could lose his driving privileges there, too, Smith said.
