X-mas eve...Green Bay visits the Metrodome. I like this game. Last year when they had the national televised game in Week 16 against the Chiefs, Moss exploded as the Vikings crushed KC 45-??!! I expect the same thing to happen this game since Moss was out in their earlier matchup this season and the Packers DB basically manhandled the Vikings WRs. I really expect a blow-out. Something along the lines for 45-24...especially if Winfield is back and Ferguson is out.

Maybe Ron Blum will be officiating the game. Remember he blew a call in last year's (Chiefs/Vikes) game which dramatically altered the momentum the Chiefs had. Trent Green completed a 32-yard pass to Eddie Kennison, who had the ball punched out along the sideline by Brian Williams. Referee Ron Blum admitted a mistake after the game, since Williams came from out of bounds and illegally touched the ball.
Oh well, let bygones be bygones is what I always say. How did the Viking fare later that year here in Arizona against the Cardinals? I can't seem to remember....
Anyway, for those of us who will be working on Friday, I hope the game is a good one and I can sneak a few peeks here and there.
Breesboy is right... San Diego has delivered. And after last night's game, who along with me is now questioning New England? San Diego hasn't gotten much publicity this year because the networks are too busy with features about T. O.ut and sweet polly purebread Manning, and Madden spends most of his time examining the polops in Favre's colon. They're for real and they're who I am rooting for.

SPELLING POLICE ALERT - I believe it is polyps...
Actually, Brian Williams was in bounds when he punched the ball out, then stepped out, then came back in and was the first to touch the football. But, if he had not been the first, it would have been 1 of the 3 Viking players around the football. So it was an incorrect call, but likely wouldn't have changed the outcome of who ended up with possession.

I think the key guys like McNabb and Westbrook should play the first half or so, and that's it. They have to balance staying sharp with staying healthy.

The Eagles, nor should Atlanta, should not rest key starters for an extended peiod of time.
Given the Owens injury, the Eagle offense needs to work together to try and develop rythm and continuity with their second tier receivers.
The assumption that Westbrook is simply going to stand up and make up for the Owens loss is pure fallacy. Pure lunacy.
While Monday's game has no significance in the standings it is significant to gauge how far the Eagles have fallen due to the injury, and how mush separation now exists between the Eagles and the rest of the NFC playoff contenders.
To me, without a game yet to be played to prove my theory, the Eagles now are simply the Eagles of last year. More later.

The defense is better than last year. McNabb is better than last year (he doesn't throw every single pass to Owens, you know). Westbrook is better than last year. And as of now both McNabb and Westbrook are healthy. The Eagles, even without Owens, are better off than last year.

I dont think any of the Eagles fans are saying they are going to have the same fire power they had when TO was in there. If anything, Reid needs to find a running game. This team is yet to prove they can run the ball when they need to. Even with Owens they were not doing this.
The Key to the Playoffs is not going to be the offense, it's going to be that D. Last year 1/2 the D line was on IR, they were giving up 200 yards a clip to the running games. Right now that is not happening and the D is only giving up 14 points a game. Right there is the key. If they keep teams in the 14-17 point range, they can win in the playoffs without TO.
On Monday, i'm going to go back a few years and remind everyone of that faithful MNF game VS the niners where a man named Koy detmer went out and lit it up when the media hacks were down on the birds. That was also the day the Star AJ was born.

Definition of mush: something soft and spongy or shapeless
Definition of separation: an intervening space
Something soft and spongy is PhillyFan's body. An intervening space is PhillyFan's mind. So "mush separation" is PF? ...cuz we all know PF has no soul!!

The Sea-Chickens are picked to beat Arizona today by 5, but I don't beleive it. They need to come out today on the field and play a game that has real meaning, play with a passion that has for the most part been sorely lacking, and prove that they can win a big must win game. Anything less, is failure pure and simple.

Watching that Vikings game I knew they were going to blow it. They should have at least gone to OT last week where they probably would have lost. I mean Mariucci had been considering benching Harrington and the Vikes made him look like Dan Marino. And they will lose next week to the Redskins. Outdoors + January + Underachieving Opponent = Loss and probable no playoffs. They could still back in if they lose, but that's only because of the other NFC contenders. Tice should be fired this week before the Redskins game. At least Denny Green waited until they got to the playoffs before gagging it away. Tice seems hellbent on making it a weekly event.

Tey have all their WR's back for the first time in a long time. If they don't win, it'll get uglier in the NW. Still, I am rooting for the Cardinals. For some unexplained reason (and no, I am not drunk.... yet.), I want to see the Cards win the division and hold a home playoff game just to see how empty the stadium will be.

Did I just hear right? I'm watching the Fox pre-game show, and Terry Bradshaw's doing that either/or game with Tom Brady. The last question: "Blondes or brunettes?"
Brady: "Brunettes. They're more sophisticated."
Bradshaw: "Never blondes? I guess you don't want to date someone prettier than you. (laughing) I don't have that problem. My guys are truck drivers."
What does that mean? Did Terry Bradshaw just come out on national television? eek!

They probably figure more people in Philly are likely to be Steelers fans rather than Colts fans. At least you get another non-home city game once in a while. We rarely get a game that doesn't involve the Jets and Giants other than the ESPN Sunday game and MNF. I fact it is usually only when the NY teams are on Sunday or Monday night that we will get a non-NY game. It would be nice if they would occassionally no sell out at Giants Stadium so we could potentially see the Ravens-Steelers or Chargers-Colts.

Huh?
Peyton has his record, and the Colts got the win as well. Maybe the Chargers are still only 4th-best in the AFC after all. After the Ravens-Steelers game ended so early they switched us to the Colts for the last 9 minutes of regulation, but then didn't show us anything after the kickoff in OT due to broadcast regulations (meaning, Fox has the doubleheader game today). Stupid rules.
What the hell happened to Jacksonville? Choke job?
Boltergeist
Dec 26 2004, 02:51 PM
Fourth best in the AFC may not be so bad after all. All in all, the Chargers had the chance to seize the game, but Indy wouldn't let them. Freeney's sack taking them out of Kaeding range, the three-and-out with 4:00 left. It was there, they just didn't take it. For the next 2-3 weeks, Marty needs to reinforce the idea of seizing the game when the opportunity arises, otherwise the good story of the year will end with the glass slipper breaking, and not very pretty.

And do tell, Jim – is your new Peyton doll anatomically correct? And if so, is he now the standard by which all other QB's are measured? wink

Considering that the Giants and 49ers were the NFC teams, if the AFC didn't win both it would be a disgrace. As it is, the Giants came pretty close.
Around these parts they're reporting that Westbrook won't play at all, McNabb will play about a quarter and the rest of the starters will get lots of rest as well, so if you've got money on the Eagles you might want to try and cancel your bets.
