Some very interesting stats that the Right will have a lot of trouble defending:

According to CNN.com, "The Bush-Cheney '04 folks dismissed Kerry's "Misery Index" as an overtly political ploy." However, if I recall correctly, the Republicans are the ones who coined the term "Misery Index" back when Reagan was running against Carter in 1980. Or was it was the Carter campaign who used it against Ford in '76?

Well, the Kerry campaign makes some legitimate points with this index. The Bushies are squeezing the life out of the great American Middle Class. But I think Kerry needs to be careful to avoid being seen as a "gloom and doom" candidate, which again harks back to the Jimmy Carter in 1980.

I also saw on CNN that Kerry is now 7 points ahead in polls. I know that will change a gazillion times over the next seven months, but at least it gave me some hope for today!

I nearly choked on my orange juice this morning when I heard that Kerry had invented a "misery index". The misery index was created decades ago. A recent discussion on this board even showed Bush's misery index numbers were comparable to Clinton's.

What really shocked me though was the media. I can't believe they are claiming Kerry "invented" this. Tomorrow the media will probably credit Kerry for coining the terms "global warming" and "terrorism" too. Kinda reminds me of Al Gore and the term "information superhighway". Although I believe Al Gore really did coin that term.

P.S. Last I heard (about a week ago) Bush was 8 points ahead in Florida. It means nothing at this point though.

It's sad when some of the slower patriots need to be constantly told just how miserable they really are. I hope they remember to make some pretty color charts to help explain the malaise to y’all. PuF, someday, once you reach puberty, you may be fortunate enough to indulge in the smell of a French man.

The National Misery Tour is hoping to take Bush away...
take Bush away...
take Bush away...

I expect Shrub to say nothing about the misery index tonight when he gives his second press conference in what 4 months? The heat is on baby. Get ready for alot of stuttering and stammering...... wink

This should be fun to watch him misspeak words and pull crap out of his ass, what will drive me up the wall is when he begins to talk vvvvveeeeerrrrrryyyyy sssssllllllooooowwwwlllllyyyyyy and annunciate every syllable. Count on a reporter mentioning the "misery Index", though. I'm sure Karl Rove has already thought of a catchy counter-phrase.

This has of course, been denied and derided by the White House, but it certainly jibes with what I'm experiencing, and what I'm seeing in my segment of the economy. I think I'll make myself a corporation and stop paying taxes...

It amazes me, though it shouldn't, how the "Misery Index" has been dismissed as politics (the White House NEVER plays politics!). Wouldn't it be great if we lived in a country where our "leaders" could take in this sort of thing as important: "These are very interesting figures, and we are going to look into them; if there is a problem, we're going to try to fix it" - rather than going into denial.

Of course, an administration that can come up with six or seven successvie different reasons for the Iraq conflict in a row, and can use one economic idea - tax cuts - to fit both surplus and recession, mustn't be bothered by facts and people's lives...

I just saw the latest ad from Kerry campaign headquarters. Its called "Time's Up", and it has a chronometer running at the top of the ad for Shrub's days in office, and a clip of Shrub saying that "He has a plan for people to have affordable health care and a plan to pay for it", or words to the effect. He repeats this several times throughout the commercial while the chronometer is running the number of days in office. It closes with a statement about Shrub's accountability at stake. I think this is the best ad from Kerry yet.

Maybe we're just confused by the ballots . . . like Katharine Harris was on her absentee ballot recently. rolleyes.gif

Wasn't it in the debates for the 2000 election that G.W. was so against nation building? Wasn't it G.W. who wanted to bring good morals back into the White House?

Funny how now he is a President rebuilding two huge countries... one albeit a relatively direct source of terrorism and another a DEFINITIVE PERSONAL VENDETTA- hmmm... nation builder it seems he is- but he can't complete the job just like any others that he has done.

How many lies and miscommunications has this White House spun? How many misguided spendings of money on situations and commissions and meetings has he wasted on the taxpayers? He directly lied to the American people- he flip-flopped bigtime on the Iraqui war. He flip-flopped big time on Condoleeza testifying- he flip-flopped big time on himself testifying- he flip-flopped big-time on having a 9-11 commission. If he can change his freaking mind- so can Kerry. If its okay to you that Bush change his mind- then you have to accept it with Kerry.

This President has been extremely wishy washy on everything because he simply does not have the personal intellect to make decisions himself. They limit his speeched and press conferences and meetings with press because he is not well spoken and simply not able to answer simple questions because he is wishy washy and a flip-flopper.

In November- I hope the bastard simply flops- but unfortunately he will probably get reelected despite his negligence on our nation. He makes the conservatives so fearful of issues that should not be forefront in order to block his stupidity and bad decisions and lies. I'm sorry- but how dare he use homosexual marriage on the forefront to block those lies. Freaking bastard GW

Well put kick! Once again, the Repugs. refuse to hear and accept the truth. Big problem for them.
