Prof. Krugman, in yet another piece, points out the chicanery and dissimulation that echoes outwards from Pennsylvania Avenue.
A Red-Blue Terror Alert
In addition to the White House and Congressional Republicans blocking or stalling on more money for port and infrastructure security (ESPECIALLY at a time when we are at war against a Middle East tyrant in a predominantly Muslim, Arab country), it appears as though the small, "heartland" states are receiving more money per capita than the states that are the most likely terror targets--New York, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Illinois, etc.
Krugman attributes this to a correlation between red-blue states and the 2000 election voting patterns.
I personally think it's just idiocy and laziness on the part of Ridge and W.; wouldn't you want to give Virginia and Maryland more funding than Wyoming or Kansas, given that the former two states surround the national capital? I also wonder what kinds of goodies have been worked out with Florida, where Jebbie's in charge. I doubt they're stinting the way some of the other populous, terror-target states are.
