So which halftime show will you guys be watching? The concert with all the bands or switching to NBC for the "very special episode" of "Fear Factor" with the Playboy Bunnies?
I'm probably going to switch to Playboy. A college guy is a college guy when it comes to Playboy bunnies, no matter what his sexuality. I gotta check it out.
Now if there were some Matt Damon movie on cable during the EXACT same time as halftime, I may have to reconsider my Bunny TV.

I'd watch...ANYTHING ELSE. Hmmmm... d'ya think Hugh Hef hisself will make an appearance on Fear Factor, resplite (is that a word? my dictionary doesn't go that high) in silk robe and pipe? Misogyny works, baby...
Actually, I'll have to miss the festivities (indoor soccer game, way too much fun to miss); please someone post who wins the coin toss, first TD and first good FG for me! Obsessed much? Moi?

I believe the word you're looking for is "resplendent."

Thanks for working out my brain-cramp, jqueer. I guess I was looking for "replete", but yours is better: "resplendified in silk robe and pipe."
So, did Hef show up on Fear Factor or not? I had 4 bonus points riding on it.

The gang I was with stayed with Fox. I love U2 and it was nice to see Bono singing live (unlike some of the other acts). Beautiful Day is such a great song! When I saw U2 in November they did the scroll of names from 9/11; it was powerful then and powerful today.

The U2 show was a sight to see, and something I don't think I will soon forget. Well done, and everything went off without a hitch!

U2 totally rocked! Mariah Carey's SSB was, as a blind monkey could have predicted, all about Mariah. U2's performance was truly a tribute. I've always loved U2 and they went up a few more nothces yesterday.

I guess I might be the only one who didn't like U2's perfomance. You could barely hear him sing, and like my mother-in-law said...hell, Tash (family dog) howls better than he does...

Did anybody else find the "collapsing tower" of names absolutely tasteless? I'm surprised they didn't have a fake airplane fly into it before it collapsed. I was just stunned. Also, I couldn't reconcile the seriousness of the name-scrolling with the partying crowd on the field. "Thousands of people died!!! PAAAARR-TEEEEE!!! WOOOO-HOOOO!!" Whatever happened to a little respect?

Lots of Us - I totally agree - I couldn't believe they had the names collapse - Plus, the World Trade Center names I noticed only got up to letter "E" I believe, I guess the rest of the alphabet is not big deal.
I still can't believe they had U2 and McCartney with all the hype about American patriotism, they bring in 2 European acts (no I don't care if Paul has a condo in Manhattan) they all make fun of us over there for worshiping football and not soccer.

Wow. I must say that I think the criticism here is a little off-the-mark. To be honest, I didn't see the parrallel between the collapsing banner and the WTC until you mentioned it; perhaps that single moment was ill-conceived, but I do not think any disrespect was intended or shown. I was actually moved by the tribute. And I actually appreciated the celebration on the field. I think it's "okay" to show we're moving on.
As for having an Irish act at halftime and a British one during pre-game and post-game commentary, I thought it was awesome. People around the world love our country. What's wrong with that?

Interesting little note about the scrolling names:
I was watching the show and they cut to a shot of Bono where you could read the names. Right at that moment, Mark Bingham's name scrolled by.

I saw that too Trevor. Very moving. I guess I missed the collapsing tower thing others have mentioned, but I thought the scroll was really well done.
I caught the "Bingham Moment" as well. I didn't feel the "collapsing" banner was intended as some took it. It was, indeed very moving. I thought U2 was great, and I liked the fact that there were no bungee jumpers, pyrotechnics, gospel choirs, etc. detracting from the performance. As for criticism because Bono and Paul McCarteney are not American-born, I'm a bit taken aback by the parochialism in that sentiment. Irving Berlin, who was born in Germany, wrote "God Bless America." You don't have to be from America to believe in the message of America, if that makes sense....

I'm pretty sure the scroll collapsing was an accident. I thought it was strange that it dropped when they were only a third through the alphabet, and then we noticed that the names kept scrolling--you could see them on some equipment on the right side of the stage.
I always left the room during the halftime "entertainment" but I stuck around for U2 and thought they did just fine.

It was extremely touching to see Mark Bingham's name, especially since I was flipping thru the channels cause the game was at half-time.
I like that foreigners were doing the singing. I appreciate it when people from other countries have the same sentiment about the tragedy that we do. After all, it happened to all of us.
It never occured to me to think that people were applauding about those lost. They were honoring them by applauding the song that was being sung for them..
We can pick up a newspaper every day and read another article about some scumbag making money from the tragedy, or a scam that is being shut down ...in light of what others are doing, Bono is a prince as far as I'm concerned.

I truely did enjoy the half time tribute and the song that was played. "where the Streets have no name". I saw the name Mark Bingham and got a little emotional as it represents so much to our extended family. I was with a group of my clients and their spouses so I couldn't spout out I saw his name, it made it even more emotional for me to hold it all in. I am open to one of my clients and her husband, who was hosting the party, but I don't even think she is aware of Mark. it was very nice to see and connect to it.

Well you guys got to see Bingham's name but my friend's son starts with W. and he didn't get his name scrolled cuz they never got that far.
I disagree about the foreign acts performing still, I doubt Spain or France would have an American act singing at their national soccer championships...

Actually, the song was "MLK."

Er, well, no, it wasn't. Unless "MLK" now contains the lines "I want to run/I want to hide/I want to tear down the walls/That hold me inside" etc. Actually "Pride (In the Name of Love)", which maybe was the song you were thinking of? would have been a better choice of song in the context. [quote]they all make fun of us over there for worshiping football and not soccer.
Riiiighhhttt....and I've never been mocked by fans of Gridiron (a better name for the game played on Sunday than football) for loving the real football.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't listening to what they were playing. But from what I've read, it's almost always been identified as "MLK." On another message board someone mentioned "Where the Streets..." and another poster said it was "MLK," the original poster then apologized for being wrong. Is it possible they did both songs?

Yeah, they did do both. They opened with "MLK" which segued into "Where the streets have no name" (with a little "All you need is love" quote at the end).
As for the performance, I was really surprised at how affected I was by the list. Then annoyed at how the backdrop was dropped. I love U2's music (for the most part) but it did feel a little bit out of place. And the lining of Bono's jacket...well, it was a bit Rattle & Hum for my taste.
