I don't know if this topic has ever been discussed. I did a search to see if it had been but after seeing the Manchurian Candidate remake with Denzel (I never did see the original) I'm wondering if Halliburton is the modern day 'Manchurian Global'. For anyone who doesn't know the synopsis of the Manchurian Candidate its basically about a war vet who has memories of being brain washed during the war. A group of soliders are taken hostage for a few days and they have implant devices put in them. Some of them are killed purposely and they brainwash the others to make up a story that they were ambushed and one particular solider single handedly killed the enemy who attacked them. Then the solider gets the medal of honor and its all leading up to him being the first privately owned and operated Vice President/President of the United States; the fictional company in the movie, Manchurian Global, is the company behind the financing of all this. So...is Halliburton the modern day Manchurian Global?

And ya know...I've seen articles about this before and I'm sure the remake was done as a statement. It didn't just happen by coincidence that it was done during the Bush administration, during a war, and with a Bush administration that has such close ties to Halliburton; a company that has been the target of suspicion for their close ties to the Bush administration. Halliburton has been the benefactor of many deals are they have basically set up shop over in Iraq. It would not surprise me at all if something like this could really happen.

My grandfather worked for the NSA during the 60s and 70s and he said if this country knew some of the things this government has done it would be total chaos. I'm not surprised at all to hear this. After all I believe that AIDS was man made and got out of control. I also sometimes wonder if they really have a cure somewhere and are keeping it hidden. I mean look at how AIDS is ravaging certain groups in devastating numbers....groups that I think the gov't may say well...let it keep taking them out. Besides...the money is in the medicine. Billions of dollars drug companies make from the manufacturing of HIV/AIDS drugs to the point now where you can live with it and its not necessarily a death sentence anymore. I probably sound like some crazy conspiracy theorist but is it really that far fetched? I don't know. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has thought this. Thoughts?

Thank you so much for those articles sportinlife...very enlightening and they basically said what I already thought. Still...glad to see people are on the mark about this kind of stuff and that I'm not the only one thinking it.

My pleasure.

I can understand your suspicion and perhaps despondence, about the two subjects for which I posted the articles. But I also see some positive signs in each article that a way out of the darkness is available. Whether or not it will be chosen is another matter.

On the subject of the "Imperial Presidency" the courts are beginning to take a stand where the legislative branch (and I might also add the so-called fourth estate) have thus far failed. They may not be able to initiate impeachment (and constititional lawyers: please correct me on this one if I'm wrong), but they can certainly rein in the power of the executive. Whether the current administration will succeed in its efforts to pack the judiciary has yet to be made entirely clear.

With respect to HIV, I have never been a fan of the notion that it was deliberately created. The folks who might have done so simply were not smart enough IMO. That it may be an experiment gone awry is another matter, and awaits the judgement of history. Negligence, insensitivity and simple greed seem more likely explanations for the lack of an HIV vaccine. But that the government may pick up where private industry has failed, or deliberately lagged, would be a good thing IMO. I have worked in the pharmaceutical industry long enough to know that incompetence is at least as prevalent as greed, but that both can be turned to advantage for the sick if properly managed or challenged. Government competition has worked in the past and can again. The internet and the human genome project are two prime examples.
