Love those Bush family values:
In testimony sworn last month in the Harris County District Court, Texas, Neil Bush acknowledged having an affair with Ms Andrews...

In his final settlement offer Neil Bush offered his wife $1000 a month alimony.

Wow, very generous!

Razorback, I certainly hope that we all aren't judged by the actions of our brothers and sisters. If we are, then I might as well pack it all in because I have one brother that substitutes marriage for dating.

I have supported you on many issues in the past, but I do think it is the ultimate sign of disrespect to the Office of the Presidency to call him a chimp. As an American, I take offense to our highest elected official (from whom i did not vote) to be characterized as such.

Did I say he should be judged by his brother? I think not, I thought it was interesting that someone who has been in the Bush family for 23 years was planning on writing a book about them.
As far as calling him Chimp - I could call him alot of other names that arent quite as nice.

Every family has a red-headed step child, the clintons were the only ones to let them help with the pardon process... other familys would just keep them out of the lime-light.

I guess if your brother is the president and you have an affair on your wife of 23 years that might make news.

It depends what your definittion of "affair" and "23" is...

Huh? There's a "definittion" of 23? What?

Okay--isn't this the same Neil Bush who was involved in the spectacular SILVERADO Savings and Loan failure in 1988 or so? Isn't this the same Neil Bush who was scheduled to dine with John Hinckley's brother the night AFTER that wacko tried to assassinate President Ronald Reagan? Why won't any of the reports mention that???

WHY ARE THE MEDIA SO EASY ON THIS PARTICULAR FAMILY??? What is it about them--the President with his DUI, his AWOL, and semi-admitted illegal drug use; Jeb and his business failures and scandal-plagued wife and children; Neil, who frittered away private and public money with impunity; the ex-pres, with his numerous ties to the Bin Laden family, his CIA past; and grandfather Prescott Bush, who made money from ties to a Nazi bank--why don't the press EVER hold these people's asses to the fire?

AND, didn't Bush criticize Clinton for his promiscuity? Is he going to criticize Neil for his adulterous whoring AND pimping his family name to make money off a program the pRez has set up? Do these people have ANY shame whatsoever?

Finally, what on EARTH was this Maria Andrews doing, given that she has AN 18-MONTH OLD CHILD? That is the part that really disturbs me--only a year and a half after giving birth to a child by her husband, she takes up with someone else, a married man?

Shameless, shameless, shameless.

BTW, one of Neil's daughters, Lauren, is one of the up-and-coming international supermodels.

Tomas,

I would say that the burden of "going after someone" is not up to the press. Rather it's the job of the political opposition to drive that machine.

Clinton and the whole scnadal-series was not the product of the media. It was the product of a well orchestrated conservative attack machine.

so then... why is no one speaking out about Bush and his foibles? Instead of asking "why doesn't the media do anything?" why not ask yourself, "Why aren't the democrats doing anything?" Don't expect others to do your job. Political attack campaigns are NOT a social service.

Ung, this is part of the problem. Why is exposing the truth of these people cast as "opposition" tactics? Shouldn't Americans know the truth about our elected officials, and not just what funded, partisans have to say? Isn't in our legitimate interest to know exactly what happened with Silverado, a multi-million dollar financial institution that went belly up under Neil Bush's watch, and what his father may or may not have had to do with preventing regulators from investigating it until AFTER the 1988 election? Even a highly objective account would show that the man lost millions of others' and the government's monies, and paid no price for it. If you blew through my money, I'd sue you. Shouldn't the American people know these things about the Bushes if we had to endure endless speculations and investigations about the preceding president, some of fueled by the press?

I'm wondering if you were screaming this loud at white water? or were you saying to leave the presidents life alone and quit picking on him?

Of course you want to know what the bush family has done wrong, you hate him.

I don't care about the divorce, as it concerns not Bush, but his brother. Note that the author of the book is Kitty Kelley, or "Kitty Litter," as I remark every time I see one of her books at a yard sale or thrift store.

What is of interest is buried at the bottom of article.

Part of his final settlement offer, so far refused by Mrs Bush, was $US1000 ($1644) maintenance a month.

In more than 260 pages of testimony Mr Bush was questioned about his business interests, stock holdings, insurance policies and bank accounts. He made $US800,000 in 2000, but denies being a wealthy man.

This is despite having raised between $US23 million and $US40 million for his latest business, Ignite, an interactive education software company aimed at helping school students improve their standardised test scores.

His efforts to market the product have been questioned in the US media because standardised testing is a key education initiative of the federal Bush Administration, and embraced in the state of Florida, where another Bush brother, Jeb, is governor.
Questions about possible conflicts of interest with respect to the standardized testing software are quite appropriate.

Didnt we waste about $70 million dollars to find out that the Clintons did nothing wrong in Whitewater and that he got some blow jobs from Monica??

Cost of investigation- 70 million....
Cheap Cigar for intern--10 bucks....

Watching the president boldly lie to the public on national TV--- Priceless.

What a waste though of the 70 million, Chimp could have used that as part of the dividend tax cut to get the economy going or use towards getting universal health insurance for Iraq.

A very good point. I hope that ain't Neil's little baby, or the ex-Mrs. Bush will get an atomic boost to her divorce proceedings.

Well, I'll say this: Jeb, Neil, W., and the rest of this bunch (brother Marvin seems to have the good sense to stay as far out of the public eye as possible) had better never deliver another public word on "morality" and expect anything but scorn from people who have tired of their hypocrisy.

I personally do not care what these people do in their private lives. Given the Right's frequent harsh critiques of the behavior of the poor and people in the ghetto (bedhopping, inability to sustain families, drug use and abuse, poor personal choices and reponsibility, etc.) W's, Jeb's and Neil's behavior, like that of Jeb's wife Columba, and that of the the next Bush generation (Jeb's daughter, Jenna, etc.), should give them pause. Just because you're rich doesn't mean you're ethically, morally or criminally exempt.

I also hope W. doesn't push any more right-wing pro-marriage legislation making divorces more difficult, that he doesn't dilate on fatherless families, and that he doesn't start yammering on about any sexual behavior by homosexuals. I can't think of any of the gay people I know of who are raising their children who are out whoring with other people's spouses like Neil.
