We seem to be right smack in the middle of All Star season as last weekend we had the NHL All Star game and this weekend will bring us both the NBA All Star game and the NFL Pro Bowl. Including the MLB All Star game, what is your opinion of the All Star games? Which is your favorite? What about the other events that make up All Star weekends like the Slam Dunk contest, NHL Skills competition, Home Run Derby-Yea or Nay?
To me, the Pro Bowl seems so pointless, other than rewardin the players with a week in Hawaii. So many guys seem to bail on the game citing injury, which is to be expected given its at the end of the season. I'd imagine most guys want to rest. And while the NBA All Star game can be very entertaining, the other events like the Slam Dunk contest have kind of grown old.

After the Greatest Super Bowl ever, yeah, it seems so pointless. A mid-season Pro Bowl is more apropos and exciting.

For me, personally, baseball's ASG is the only one that is remotely watchable. The NHL game has become a joke due to the lack of defense. The NBA game is similar, though I think people don't mind that because it can lead to spectacular dunks and such. The Pro Bowl is a snoozefest.

I just read that 19 guys selected for the Pro Bowl have bowed out! That's an awful high percentage. Anyway, I agree the MLB All Star game is the best and when the big guns compete, the Home Run Derby is great fun too. The NHL needs to allow some hitting, thought it will never happen. I heard a guy suggest a way to get these guys to really compete at these events. Make it a winner-takes-all. So in last week's NHL All Star game, the North American team would not have won any money. Don't really think its feasible, but it is intriguing.
