The wife of New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan coyly accused her husband of having an extramarital affair with another man, TV doctor Ian Smith, in their divorce proceedings, the New York Daily News is reporting.

Story

I heard this story on our all news radio station this morning, so I guess it is national news.
Adam
I'm shocked. Socked, I tell you. Who would have thought a TV doctor could be gay?!? Is nothing sacred? wink

I can't get the picture of Michael Strahan in a full white TV nurses outfit playing examining room with his down low buddy.

There's a Chunky Soup joke in there somewhere too but I just can't find it.
Buck
I wouldn't trust anything that's said during divorce proceedings.
GMENLOVER
Michael Strahan is a good guy... and a great Defensive player... Unlike a lot fo loudmouths who under perform the rest is hooey... But I would gladly share an apartment with him ( or anything else)
Maddog
I agree. I would totally welcome Michael to our family. He seems to be a sweetie.
Munson Man
Strahan has been very publicly supportive of gay causes in NYC. His openmindedness may have left him open to cheap accusations from his wife. Or maybe he really is gay and this will cause him to come out.

OH BOY! You're not kidding! I've seen too many divorces from straights and it seems that women nowadays accuse their future ex-spouses of being gay when they have a close male friend. While I am extremely skeptical, I would support Strahan nevertheless.

I lost interest in athlete's sexual preference after the Ricky Williams bisexual allegations that ran amuck when he signed with the Saints. It's unfair to the accused because it presupposes: 1) that the athlete misrepresented him or herself, and 2) that everyone ought to know precisely what their sexual preference is. But in fact it takes time for some of us to work through these issues. Some people never get it fully straightened out.

I agree with Buck on this one. Every woman has the right to fight for what's hers in a divorce, but draggng in unsubstantiated homosexual allegations was unnecessary and an obvious attempt to harm a good guy like Strahan, and get more money. I don't believe a word of it. And even if it is true, what does it matter to a divorce hearing? She kicked him out. What matters is that Strahan is a good guy. Just ask any player in the league.

I hope the day comes when sexual preferences don't matter at all.

I don't know why but it still surprises me what people will do for a buck or two. She must be a realloser to say this knowing he is a public figure and it could have a serious outcome on this mans life. I dont know and dont care why they are getting a divorce but Jesus Christ, is anything kept private these days?

In other countries this wouldn't have even made the news.

As I mentioned in the Will Smith - Wendy Williams thread in the TV section, Wendy Williams discussed this Strahorn - Ian Smith gay affair rumor well over a year ago on her radio talk show. It doesn't necessarily make it so, however.

yelladawg is right. there have been strahan rumors
for years going back even to him being linked to wayne chrebet. i met mike and his wife a few years ago and he seemed pretty nice. i just feel bad for the kids who have to endure this public drama.

The day I am hoping for is that someone make an acqusation like this against a celebrity or athlete and it does not present any harm to them.

Michael Strahan briefly called in to the Wendy Williams radio show on Wednesday afternoon to respond to a remark his wife made during divorce proceedings about his "alternative lifestyle." He briefly discussed his marriage and his sexual preferences during an interview that Williams was conducting with TV commentator Dr. Ian Smith, Strahan’s alleged paramour.

As always, Wendy went straight for the kill. When Williams asked "how you doin" - street talk for "are you gay?" - Strahan answered, "If this were true, it would hit the fan from the get go."

"I have plenty of friends that are bi or homosexual. It's fine with me. This is New York City. If you can't accept people for being people, then you have no business being here."

"I don't frown on anybody for that lifestyle, it's not my lifestyle. And you know, I just laugh. All that matters is that I'm gonna take care of my kids."

Strahan's wife Jean dropped a bombshell Tuesday - telling reporters that after her marriage fell apart, her husband moved in with Smith and the two enjoyed an "alternative lifestyle" together. Asked if Smith was his best friend, Strahan told Williams, "he's one of them."

As for his wife's suggestive remark that he had stayed with Smith "in his one-bedroom apartment," Strahan said, "When I had to stay somewhere, he opened his door. It's not that I couldn't stay at any hotel I want." When asked if the newlywed Smith's wife was there at the time, he said, "yes."

Smith, during his interview, questioned Jean Strahan's mental health. "This is obviously a very, very disturbed person," he said, adding that he's concerned about what will happen to Strahan's daughters "when they are old enough to read that their mother said all these inaccurate things about their father."

The paparazzi have seized on this story and are now shadowing Strahan—robbing him of what little privacy he had as an NFL star.

After his radio show call, Strahan, wearing a long-sleeved white T-shirt and shorts, jogged from his Greenwich Village apartment to the nearby apartment of Smith's twin brother, Dana, a fashion executive, and the two continued on to the Crunch gym on Christopher Street. They split up briefly when a Post photographer approached.

Inside the gym, Strahan refused to answer questions from a Post reporter who was lifting weights nearby.
"Keep reading about it in your own paper," he said.
When pressed, he snarled, "Enjoy your workout," and returned to his lifting partner, Dana Smith.

Interesting that when I popped into the Charger boards this morning, there was a thread on the Strahan situation, that being Cyd's.

He denied it. So, in my mind, and unless he does something to indicate otherwise, the issue is settled. The wife lied.

Why automatically assume the wife is the one who is lying?

I was told by someone who should know, that Michael couldn't keep it in his pants (was not confirmed if it was men or women or both), AND she couldn't keep her legs crossed either. That was their arrangement, however, when Michael started treating her poorly, making her look bad in public, that's when she filed for divorce.

I find this tactic interesting because... most lawyers would probably tell her to keep her mouth shut if it were true, as his future earnings (and her alimony and child support payments) could be hurt... or, at least the perception is they would be hurt by a revelation such as this.

On the other hand, maybe she knows she's going to get plenty to keep her happy, and she's just really pissed and wants to get back at him.

My girlfriend brought up an interesting
point when talking about this last night,
on one hand gay people obsess over who is
gay and stalk any athlete who is single for
too long before getting married (jason
kendall comes to mind) but when an article
hits the fan gay people assume the wife is
a witch and just lying to get money.

But her true insight was this, there is a
difference between saying, my husband is gay
and not fulfilling his marital duties and my
husband is gay and he is sleeping with Dr. so
and so. To her specificity is not the sign of
an emotionally distraught vengeful wife cause
it would make more sense to say "he was at the
Roxy with some go-go boy I don't know" than to name an actual person. That's her opinion.
Maddog
Who is Jason Kendall and why wasn't he on my gay stalking report?

Dammit I'm not going to be able to keep up with all the people I should be stalking if this doesn't get updated properly!

I don't know if it was a year ago but I faxed in to Wendy Williams about this story. She talked about it during her first hour and then during the bonus hour. Bottom line... its true. Many in the black community know that Dr. Ian Smith is gay and know what is up with he and Michael Strahan being on the DL. Usually Wendy is good about the "how you doin" scenario and I think she's reluctant to say that Dr. Ian is gay because he's a repeat guest on her show. But yes...Dr. Ian and Michael...."HOW YOU DOIN??!!"

I've always thought he was gay for some reason. Not sure why, he just pinged that way to me. So I'm not surprised there are rumors.

Damn, buddy, he's right across the bay: Catcher for the A's. And a hotter man I can't imagine.

But I'd never heard that about him either. But any guy who names his son Kuyper ("Kuyper Kendall" -- yeesh) is obviously gay. eek!

Now, what reason would anyone have for being gay, Roger? biggrin.gif

Jason Kendall played for my beloved Pittsburgh
Pirates before being traded to the Oakland A's.
He is a catcher by position and had probably the
best bench clearing brawl this year. I used to
crush on him between girlfriends/boyfriends
until he decided to live happily ever after.

Well, I still say, unless we have evidence to the contrary, we should assume that people's sexual orientation is exactly what they say it is. So, until proven otherwise, I believe Strahan is straight. Of course, I like him and think he's a great athlete, so it doesn't matter to me what his sexual orientation is. To do what his wife did in a national forum was unnecessary, vindictive, and immature to my way of thinking. So, I refuse to side with her on this, and still don't believe a word of it.
