It's because the economic indicators don't count the garage sale items sold on Ebay. Well, that's Cheney's opinion.

QUOTE
Last week in Cincinnati, Cheney told voters that indicators miss the hundreds of thousands who make money selling on eBay. \"That's a source that didn't even exist 10 years ago,\" the vice president said. \"Four hundred thousand people make some money trading on eBay.\"
Edwards, however has a different take on the Ebay issue:
QUOTE
\"He said people are selling a lot of stuff on eBay. When we count the bake sales and lemonade stands, we'll have a roaring economy,\" Edwards told a union hall rally.
Is Bush/Cheney so out of touch that they really think the economy is booming, and that underground Ebay sales are keeping the economic indicators from reflecting that??? rolleyes.gif

Maybe people are selling things on Ebay because they need to survive.

Kind of like people in Europe selling household possessions on the streets after WW2 so they could eat.

But Cheney's rich, so that would never enter his mind

The "swap meet" economy is turning the corner.

Yes actually - they are that out of touch.

It is easy to have happen to you if you are wealthy.

Hire a housekeeper - now you don't have to know how much groceries cost.

Hire a decorator - now you don't know what houshold stuff costs.

Have all your bills charged to your credit card, then have your paycheck direct deposited and the bills payed automatically each month - no more need to deal with nasty cash.

Get a job that is recession proof - like president or VP of the US - no more worries about job security...

Have people constantly sucking up telling you what a great job you are doing, and BTW can you possibly help me out with this little problem I have w/ the Gov't - you totally lose touch with people on the street, and think that the people you deal with every day - lawyers politicians, beureaucrats etc are 'Average Americans'.

Bush Sr had the SAME DAMN PROBLEM...

Seriously though, the problem is difficult to resist and has been around for centuries... remember 'let them eat cake'? {I do not want a flood of complaints from historians now - yes I know the real whole story, and yes I know the diff between French Ren. 'Cake' and 'Bread' flour - it actually makes the story more pathetic.)

As for the E bay culture - what is next? Are they going to start blaming the local Church rummage sale? The Girl Scouts for selling cookies? How about my next door neighbors kid for shoveling driveways?
