Colin Powell Sings Village People Song

And you thought the LCR was having no effect.

By SLOBODAN LEKIC, Associated Press Writer

JAKARTA, Indonesia - U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) donned a hard hat and tucked a hammer in his belt Friday to perform a version of the Village People's hit \"YMCA\" at the conclusion of Asia's largest security meeting — which tradition says ends with a night of skit and song.

Powell danced alongside five other U.S. officials dressed in fancy dress and blasted out a version of the 1970s disco classic to the delight of foreign ministers from across the Asia-Pacific and Europe.

Guess that means he's given up on getting the vote of the Christian Right in that campaign for President which he claims will never happen.

this song is such an enigma....everywhere you go, if the song is played in public, the whole crowd -- good, blond suburban christian children, their fathers, mothers, and THEIR fathers and mothers -- knows the lyrics, or at least the refrain and the annoying attendant arm movements, and merrily sings and motions along!

yet very, very few of them, i bet, have made the effort to listen to, and understand, the lyrics enough to know that the song is, at its core, a paean to a gay bathhouse!

and now we have powell joining in the praises!

oh, the irony! (or is it stupidity?)

Colin isn't stupid. Given his get up and performance, he may know more about the lyrics in this song than we realize....

You've seen the stills. Now see the video.

It could have been worse; he could have been performing that other unexplainable ballpark staple, The Troggs' Wild Thing shirtless.
