Another Illinois governor, another conviction and sentence. Not to be outdone, current Governor Blagojevich is presently under multiple federal investigations for numerous corruption allegations.
Governor Ryan's sentencing today Left, right; Democrat or Republican--in Illinois, they're all the same. Corruption and sleaze, thy home is Illinois.

It is so sad that politicians in this state, particularly in scumbucket Cook County, honestly do not care that what they do is corrupt and illegal, for they view it as the norm and not the exception. It's simply accepted here. Scores of Republicans and Democrats have been sent to prison for their despicable misdeeds, but it just keeps on going. No wonder why the director of the Chicago FBI office once explained that more FBI agents are assigned out of the Chicago office to political corruption
than in all other FBI offices combined.
Unbelievable.

Hey, the city used to run well on corruption. It's just that efficient corruption (er...however you wish to define that) can't last forever.

For what it's worth, the B/F's brother worked in the FBI's Chicago office before his untimely death. He confirmed this fact that even FBI HQ in Washington, DC didn't have the amount of agents on political corruption that the Chicago office had.

I'm enjoying Judy Barr Topinka's ads on WGN.
That one with the dogs is stupid; but Blago disgusts me. What a choice we have in November.

Here in the Golden State, we only have to worry about our congressmen being corrupt. Everyone else has yet to prove their penchant for corruption. I hope we can all learn from the bad examples being set there in Illinois.

I hope so too. Only Northwest Indiana tops Crook County, IL. Yup, we are far more corrupt than you twinkies in Chicago...one of the advantages of not having any local media. Heck, they flaunt their corruption like a badge of honor in Northwest Indiana. I doubt it will ever change. There is only one party, the Dems, which means we never even get the chance to vote the bums out.

Isnt there a Federal Judge in Chicago that can do something about this?
Another republican crook, shocking.

hey somebody? Was this guy related to Jeri Ryan's (Seven, StarTrek Voyager) ex husband?

From Wikipedia:
In 1990, while dealing blackjack at a charity event, Jeri Lynn met investment banker and future political candidate Jack Ryan(not George). The couple married in 1991 and had a son, Alex, in 1994. Throughout the marriage, Ryan and her husband took turns commuting between Los Angeles and Chicago for their careers, but finally divorced in 1999. Although Ryan mentioned (in an interview for Star Trek), that the frequent separations had been difficult for the marriage, the reasons behind the divorce were kept sealed at their mutual request.

Hi Sooner, thanks! I heard about the divorce, after Jeri refused to 'swing' with others at her ex-husbands request.

From today's Sun-Times
More than two a year.
That's how many past or present elected officials have been convicted of crimes in Illinois each year on average since 1972 -- at least.
It's tough to be sure. No one really keeps a comprehensive list.
But a close scrutiny of news reports and other sources over past decades shows that at least 79 current or former Illinois, Chicago or Cook County elected officials have been found guilty by judges, juries or their own pleas.
Some fit in multiple categories, but we only counted them once, in the highest office they achieved.
We didn't include suburban politicians, appointed officials or purely political types in an effort to keep it to a manageable list.
Despite the big numbers, George Ryan is in a somewhat exclusive group.
He's one of only three former governors on the list. The bulk are aldermen and judges.
So many aldermen have gone off to jail that when 1991 passed with none being indicted or convicted, the Sun-Times ran a front-page story.
Guilty parties
Here are the sorry statistics:
Governors: 3
Other statewide officials: 2
State legislators: 15
Congressmen: 2
Mayors: 1
Other citywide officials: 3
Aldermen: 27
Cook County judges: 19
Other Cook County officials: 7
Interesting that Chicago has 50 aldermen, with
27 of them having gone to jail. You do the math.

It also led to Alan Keyes running for Senate in Illinois. One of the more comical campaigns in recent memory.

Hey, there's a whole lot of Illinois he can move into. We've got plenty of room outside of the Chicago metro area.
Edit: And the rest of us are only kind of corrupt.

I so hope they tap Alan Keyes to run for president. His run for governor in Illinois was truly one of the most comical moments in Illinois political history. As for George Ryan, here's a tip...don't bend over if you drop the soap in the shower. It's really poetic justice...one of the biggest jerks in Illinois political history is now doing hard time in the hole. Tee hee hee, couldn't have happened to a creepier pol. All the best, Georgie boy!

Well, Senate, but it was very funny. Side note: His daughter, a lesbian he threw out when she came out, is one of the nicest people I've ever met. She holds no ill will towards her parents and is a very vocal gay rights spokeswoman.

The former Senatorial candidate's ex-wife Jeri Ryan, Ms. Seven of Nine, was quite a fetching lady, I must admit.

Won't he be quite popular among the prisoners since he issued his moratorium on death row candidates? I know a few people who think he's the Queen bee's wax. I personally thought his move was courageous, but cannot get past his rampant corruption, which preceded his election to the governorship. Illinois at least has some non-corrupt members of Congress. Neither Dickie Durbin (whose bill Senator Confederate "Macaca" Allen stole the other day, only to get busted on the floor of the Senate!) nor Barack Obama has been linked to any corruption, and the same is true for most of the Congressional delegation. Chicago, led by one of the corrupt little tinpot dictators in American history, is in a league of its own.
And then there's New Jersey! Thank God our liberal governor is so rich that he doesn't have to steal a dime. He actually gave away hundreds of thousands freely to his ex-girlfriend, a union boss!

Courageous to issue a blanket commutation for ALL death row convicts? Hardly. It was a despicable move, and one that was an insult to the families of victims whose guilt was absolute. Too many people who in no way should have been commuted were, and that was an unconscionable slap in the face to the families of such scumbuckets' victims.
And I'm an opponent of the Death Penalty, too, I remind you.
