What a sad story. This is relating to the story in Jock Talk. I actually saw it here, before even reading today's newspaper.
Arena Player Dies
Joe in Philly
QUOTE
After Yearwood collapsed, a public address plea for the emergency medical staff focused the attention of the crowd on the visiting bench. Trainers and on-site medical personnel attended to Yearwood until an ambulance arrived. Sedgwick County paramedics then took over, trying an oxygen bag and chest compressions before attempting to shock Yearwood's heart.

Yearwood was taken off the field on a stretcher. The ambulance left the Coliseum at 9:02 p.m. Official word of Yearwood's death came by 10 p.m.

The 25 minutes before Yearwood was taken from the arena were harrowing. Stealth lineman Cliff Holloman perched between the benches, continually calling out: \"Come on Juice, fight through it. Come on Juice.\"
Why did they have to make a PA announcement for the EMS? They weren't near the field? I thought they always kept an ambulance close by. Even so, I don't know that the PA system is such a good idea--it could upset some people. They should have a radio contact or something.

According to today's report:
QUOTE
... a paramedic and three emergency technicians were at Yearwood's side with their equipment within two minutes of being alerted to a problem. The medical professionals serve as a stand-by unit...\" \"The group was stationed at the northeast part of the facility. A sheriff's deputy radioed for the unit to go to the bench after noticing Yearwood having trouble. The public address announcer also called for medical professionals.
I agree Joe that using the PA is probably not wise, but as you know in an emergency situation you try to get help as soon as possible. The announcer probably did not know that they had already been radioed.
