A bill that would have prevented the State of Tennessee from recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states failed by a 5-4 vote in a House subcommittee today!

My beloved Tennessee...at least the Eastern third of it.

Very Cool stuff!!! More fodder for me when i go to the Georgia state Capitol formore lobbying. I was just there today talking to legislators about GA attempt to pass an amendment to the constitution to ban recognition of same sex unions.

It's interesting - in the wake of the Mass decision, all of these anti-gay amendments and bills have been proposed in a lot of states. I have not seen any statistics on the issue, but my anecdotal reading says that AT LEAST 50% of them have failed. Whether or not people like gay marriage, they really do not seem to like voting in favor of amendments.

wade, I really hope your efforts have some effect and that bill is never passed down there. I'd really like to move back to Atlanta with my partner and not be treated as a second class citizen (not that's it's much better here in Nashville). Having never been to any other part of GA except for all-state band auditions, I never really realized that the rest of the state wasn't half as progressive as its capital.

Noirdore, first I would like to say welcome to the board. Second, I would like to say thanks for the support. I learn more about the state and it's history every day. Savanah also seems to be pretty liberal by Georgia standards. Atl and Savanah have the largest populations by far in the state. Hope you enjoy this board and will find strength in numbers here as i have.

Wade, do you know who has the second largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in the U.S. (NYC having the biggest)? Savannah, Georgia! I heard that on CNN last week.

An amendment to the Kansas State Constitution was passed a couple of weeks ago. Last week it was in the Senate sub-committee. The sub-committee approved it on Monday for a full vote of the State Senate. They will be voting on it probably next week. If it is passed by at least 2/3 of the Senate (as it was by the House) it will go on the November ballot. It only needs 50% of the vote in November to become official.
