On Tuesday night, there were (paraphrasing a quote from an episode of 'Fractured Fairy Tales' from "Rocky & Bullwinkle") seven....seven shutouts in one night. This was the highest number of shutouts since June 1972.

Yes, Bob Gibson was one of the pitchers involved with the June '72 shutouts.

Hmmm...surprising that this took so long to be repeated. Back in 1972 twelve games was the max on the schedule(barring DH's) whereas today it is fifteen......

and marlins rookie pitcher ANIBAL SANCHEZ no-hits D'backs!

Last night's three blowout shutouts-- White Sox over the Angels, 9-0; Blue Jays over the Mariners, 10-0; Padres over the Reds, 10-0--made me wonder whether there had ever before been this many shutouts by that many runs.

The odd things that wander though my little mind. smile.gif
